Josh Brookes, 2015 MCE Insurance British Superbike Champion. The Syndey-born Australian finally held up the 2015 British Superbike Championship trophy at the final round of Brands Hatch in October. It took him seven years to achieve this feat, but came very close to it before with a second championship finish in 2010 and 2012 and a third finish in 2013. The man has ended in the championship showdown for the last six years, it was only a matter of time before he won the championship.

The combination with the Yamaha YZF-R1 for 2015 was a golden one. Although some adaption issues in the first few races, Josh and the R1 came up to steam and took thirteen victories in the season and only missed the podium three times.
The radically new design of the R1 was not only good enough to overcome rival Shakey Byrne in the fight for the BSB title, but it provided a strong platform for success in other series. Bradley Smith, Pol Espargaro and Katsuyuki Nakasuga won the 8 hours of Suzuka with the R1. Team MGM does good work in the German Superbike IDM with it and the Yamaha-based teams in the World Superstock are increasing. And who can forget this year’s Yamaha’s dominant MotoGP season (albeit a prototype and not the R1). 2015 is the year of Yamaha.
Yamaha triggered quite the change in motorsport with their new machinery. For 2016 there are more Yamaha teams in the BSB, stronger more developed teams in Superbike IDM, FIM Endurance, AMA Superbike and other series. The biggest news for 2016 though is the return of a full-works Yamaha Factory team in the World Superbike Championship with drivers Sylvain Guintoli (SBK champion 2014) and Alex Lowes (BSB champion 2013).

I had the pleasure to meet Josh Brookes during round 10 of the British Superbikes Championship at the TT circuit of Assen. He was more than happy to place his signature on my work.
