Art | Characters (c) Me

Felt like this piece needed a little context, so lucky you, you get a short chapter-y thing to go along with it

As I opened my eyes I felt myself falling, ever so gently falling. I looked down, my feet softly landing in a shallow pond. No not a pond,a shallow ocean hidden in a dark abyss.
Where was I? How did I get here? I remember closing my eyes under a tree...I looked around. Certainly no trees only the voids warm stare. It was weirdly peaceful. Serene. Yet there was a sadness lurking out there, like a place of comfort that had been scarred by something.
“Hello?” My voice echoed off the water, I watched as the sound seemed to cause ripples in the distance. I wasn't expecting a reply, at least I wasn't sure I wanted one, but alas, something stirred out there.
It took a moment but the water began to be more than ripple, it shimmered, no something in the water shimmered as waves gently crashed into my feet. I may not have seen much of what was out there, but I could hear it. The water moved quietly but the motions caused such movement that whatever was lurking must have been large, very large.
Another beast? I wondered, had I fallen into some cave while I wasn't paying attention. With no weapon in hand I instinctively began thinking of spells I could use, looking to my arms for the runes,
“Fear not Little One.” Echoed a soft voice, deep and empowered, but gentle in nature. As small blue orbs lit up the water around me, my eyes looked forward...and then up.
“Oh...Hello.” I spoke, timidly. This beast was unlike anything else I'd seen so far. A towering serpent, with feathers sprouting from it's head like ears only to then trail down it's spine. A spine that seemed to stretch for miles, every where I looked I could see the beast's body moving in the water.
“It has been a long time since I've seen someone,” The snake said. “I never expected to meet anyone again.”
“Who...are you?” I asked, the beast looked down at me with dark eyes, deep as the void we stood in. I stared into the serpent eyes, finding myself lost in them; I swear I could see the tides reflected in those deep voids, but these were harsh, rough waters, not like the still water beneath my feet.
“I am an old friend, if you please.” The serpent said, pulling me from my trance.
“But I don't think we've met?”
“Maybe not in this life, but you and I have more history than you may yet realise.” Cryptic, and not at all ominous.
“I don't understand.” I asked, those big voids for eyes staring down at me, like they were burrowing into my soul.
“We have little time Old Soul, if you wish for answers, you must come find me.”
“Find you? Little time? What do you mean?” I queried, looking at the beast who simply cocked it's head to the side.
“This, is only a fleeting memory and you are not yet strong enough to hold onto this dream for long”
“Memory? Dream? Wait” I began to say,
“We will meet soon Oscion.” The serpent said as it began to melt away into rain water, crashing into the pond that was now beginning to stir. The water around me began swirling, growing more and more aggressive till my legs were swept up, my body following, tumbling around in an abyss to who know where. As I took a deep breath, my eyes opened with a flash at the same time only to find myself sitting under a tree.
I looked around, I was in the forest, right where I was before I started dozing. Had that really been just a dream? It felt so real, too real. As the clouds moved across the sun I could see daylight was fading, I wouldn't have long to get home so for the time being the dream will have to wait.
