Description
As the shadowy clones materialized in front of the group, Oryan took a step back. “Oh no… another fight..” she thought to herself. She reached into her bag and pulled out the knife she had brought along with her. The knife that she was hoping she wouldn’t have to use.
She stared at the void as it swirled in front of her. Soon, she found herself staring right back at herself. “I don’t know if I can do this!” she thought. She braced herself. It would be over soon, right?
She closed her eyes and waited for the shadowy clone of herself to strike first. But it didn’t. She opened one eye. It stood in front of her, seeming to be waiting for her to make the first move.
“Maybe it got my personality too?” she pondered.
She gripped the knife tighter. “It’s not really me. It’s not a real bagbean. It’s the void. Keep telling yourself that. It’s.. just… the… void…” she whispered under the breath.
She took a step forward. The void clone took a step forward, too. She took a deep breath and ran straight at the shadowy clone. Swinging her knife wildly, she lashed out at the clone. With each swing of the knife, the clone slowly disappeared. Small chunks of shadowy smoke began to drift away.
As much as she hated to fight, watching the void slowly disappear gave her more strength. She kept swinging. The shouting of each member of the team rang in her ears. She could feel herself gaining more strength with each swing. “We’re winning!” she thought. “We are actually winning!”
With a little more than half of the shadowy clone left, Oryan looked around her. Dark, swirls of void and shadowy clones of everyone in the group surrounded her. She gasped. Struggling to catch her breath, she ran and hid behind a tree. “I can’t do this. I can’t fight!” she cried, losing her resolve. She felt a small movement in her bag.
Squidge poked his nose out. “Not now. It’s not a good time, Squidge!” she said. Squidge didn’t listen and climbed out onto her paw. She nuzzled him for a moment. “We have to do this, don’t we?” Squidge stared at her with his big, brown eyes, almost answering her without any words. “If we don’t, the void will take over. I won’t be able to run my shelter anymore and none of the animals I want to help will get any help!” she said. “I HAVE to do this…”
Squidge licked her paw and quickly ran back into her bag. She picked up the knife that had fallen next to her. She looked at it. She looked out at the shadowy clones. “I guess sometimes we have to do things we don’t want to do because it’s the right thing to do…” she muttered. She sighed, gathered up all the courage she could, and ran out from behind the tree. She looked at her shadow clone again. Holding the knife tightly in her paw, she ran straight for it. She swung at it with her knife, and the last few wisps of smoke dissipated. She looked around. She fixed her eyes on the nearest shadow clone, took a deep breath, and ran at it, swinging her knife bravely.
