Description
This is my niece on her first birthday. I took this at a pretty quick shutter speed in a room that wasnt well lit and subsequently had to use a higher ISO than i would have liked which is why there is so much noise. i rather like the photo as a whole though. enjoy.Related content

First of all I want to say that I don't like the composition. You could have croped the picture and not let the little baby stay right in the middle of the picture. You make greate use of the space around her and you can create comunication betwen her and the environment. Last but not least I love the noise.

your right about all that. the crop was probably the hardest part of post processing and i couldnt really decide how i wanted it. if i had gotten lower to the floor when i took the photo it probably would have been better composition but oh well. thanks

i think i like the noise in this. it gives it an older feel like it was taken with a high grain film on a manual camera. it doesn't hurt that she's adorable. nice job capturing the moment.

Here is the critique that you wanted.
First off I will commend you on getting a good expression out of a little niece like that as that is notoriously hard, just speaking from experience. I think that the cropping of the piece could have been better by not having your subject so dead center like that. By off centering your subject you make greater use of the rule of two thirds and helps with focus. I feel that the picture is a little to dark and takes away the natural contrast that I think was originally there. It is still an interesting shot but could have been better.

thanks. the only problem is that there were some distracting little objects on the sides of the frame that i felt needed to be taken out. i could have cloned 'em out but i felt that a crop was a more honest route. thanks though
