Beaches can be such places of joy, summer holidays, children playing in the surf....But what I really love about them is they have two sides, when the weather changes & the people drift away, they are places of reflection and mournful loneliness.

I love this picture it's so beautiful. Like at first glace it's just a beach but look closer there can be more. It's the kind of picture I would frame and put on a wall in my house.

I love the texture and DARKNESS of the grays here... definitely a monochrome shot. Something about beaches that makes me think of light sandy yellow and blue... THIS beach is heavy, very heavy. And the clouds add to that... a very brooding shot. The texture on the sand in front and that on the cliff and in the sky all add up to something complex and quite lovely.

The weird thing about this shot is that I didn't monochrome it. That's pretty much the colour the day was.
It's a scan of a print & it was so grey that my scanner couldn't pick up any colour in it & scanned it as a monochrome.
Kind of like what you said, I wanted to capture the other side of a beach. The lonliness of the winter beach, when children aren't playing in the surf and all that.

Very true. I spent quite a lot of my youth around beaches like that one, in conditions like those. My parents would drag us out walking whatever the weather!
So, I love that side of them as much as the sunny side. I guess they appeal to the melancholic artist in me!

Oo, I erally like the composition in this!| The quality / noise kills it though, such a shame. Maybe if you put a boarder on it it wouldnt look so noisy ?

quite the emotive pic. Its very alone. I like it. To have just one person there is amazing. Has a very lonely feel to it and it really suits because of the dullness of the sky and how its dark. Very well done. Overall a gud deviation.

This is a beautiful picture! Love the tones! You should consider reuploading a bit smaller so people can really enjoy it in full view, and maybe add a border?

Nice contrasts in this photo. It really shows the feeling of loneliness and abandonment. I like how it's bright on the left side and then as you go to the right it gets darker and darker due to the wet sand and outcrop of land on the right. It's similar to shots of the lochness monster. A sens eof imposing danger or sadness/distress. I'd change the perspective on this photo so that you were looking from just a bit above ground level. Other than that nice shot.

It's funny, it's not actually a b/w pic, but the sky & beach were so grey my scanner wouldn't pick up the colour detail!

I like the beach better when it's less crowded. Whenever I go, it's on a dreary kind of day. It's just more interesting. Though, at night, it's scary as all hell
