Haha! Yeah, probably it is! By the way, I'm doing it a little different. Instead of inverting the selection and feathering it, I just unselect (CTRL+D) and apply a little bit of gaussian blur. Also, When you want to highlight the parts with the lightning, I like to create many copies of the layer with the drawing, in multiply mode, to increase the contrast. Than I delete them.
