Because he was tricked by Dracula and Alucard.

I think the worst part of Lords of Shadow 2 is that we can't fight him. Personally, I think it would be nice to have a real ending and a fake ending for the game. If we don't meet certain conditions, we fight him, and if we do, we fight the Zobek and Satan. I think it would have been a very satisfying game if it was made this way. It's too bad that I don't have a chance to fight him who is the strongest of the three Acolytes.

Well, we didn't get to fight Zobek in the first game, either. We fought the Dracolich he summoned, but not him. Seems they were setting a theme that the "strongest" ends up removed by Satan...

Actually I think the direct opposite, he did exactly what the acolytes intended, namely summoning Satan to the mortal world. The other two got themselves killed without anything to show for it, at least this guy actually did accomplish their goal...

Yeah, no need to remind me. It has been a while since I saw such a strange and horrific way to get killed...well aside from this one anime with giant killer bunnies that eat people.

i remember mentally preparing for a boss battle with him when he suddenly got killed by satan...i was kinda disappointed

I think he was what was called a 'squishy' super tough in terms of magic...but i think Dracul and Alucard would have pounded him into the dirt in terms of hand to hand combat.
