Description Sailor Sun for 's contest.
It's kinda crappy and ugly (I did the lineart on a rather rough flight with no references) but one thing I've learned from sports is that it's beter than to compete and loose than to not compete at all.

Name: Solaris
Age: more than ten-thousand
Birthstone: Fire Opal
Technique: Sailor Sun is so powerful that she no longer needs to shout the names of her attacks. She needs only to look into the eyes of her enimies to have them spontaneously combust.

Likes: Solaris has grown so old that she has become apathetic to the universe.
Dislikes: being roused from her slumber to defend the solar system.

I don't know...I kinda used this picture to play with a few different ideas I had kicking around my head.

Looks cool!
I like especially the hair.

What sort of graphic tablet do you have? Wacom?

Thank you^^

I use the Wacom Bamboo tablet. It's tiny, great for taking on airplanes or in the car.

I just bought an Aiptek A4 tablet. A whole lot cheaper than
Wacom... and propably has that much less quality, too!

Have you seen Star Trek yet?

the Bamboo is a lot cheaper than their tablets with more space...but I don't really need a lot of space, and I need something I can travel with.

Yes!! It was amazing! I was so happy. Have you seen it yet?

Not yet!
I haven't had any free nights since my wife is working
in night-shift and I've got to look after our son.

But I've got a good vibe that I'll like it too!
Plus I'm a Karl Urban fan... which is weird since he's
not a hot chick and doesn't have a sword!

The second and sixth are currently my favourite Star Trek movies.

why not take your son to the movie?

I suspect you will. Everyone I've talked too has liked it. Even non-trekkie people.

Nah, Miro couldn't sit through a whole movie
...unless it's a Pixar animation.

Oh yeah, and the language barrier! Luckily
they don't dub movies (other than animations)
here and he can't read the subtitles yet...

...And I'm guessing other people wouldn't like
an added narrator (me) to their movie experience

ah, there is that problem. I hadn't thought of that. I've seen some really bad dubs of things from other languages to english so I suspect from english to annother language would be just as bad.

I've seen some portions of spanish, german and russian dubbed films
and they do sound&feel weird... but I guess things would be different if
it was the only way foreign movies have ever been shown in your country.

Dubbing doesn't hurt animations that much though... And it doesn't
matter if someone dubs Ben Stillers voice in Madagascar, since the
character does not look like Ben Stiller anyway

In general, we finns have been bathed with media from UK and US
for so long that I think younger generations wouldn't need those
subtitles too much either anymore.

I entirely disagree with your statement that dubbing does not harm animations.
Have you seen the english versions of any japanese anime?? in anycase, the people of your country are probably a lot nicer to animations than the americans...and...the german dubb of Sailor Moon was significantly better than the english one...

Being multi-linguial is a good skill. As a vaulter I really need to be able to speak german...I just havn't had much time to study lately. What free time I've had between work and training has been dedicated to taking a chunk out of my art to-do list.

Yes, anime is a bit different thing... in here at least.
Nobody dubs it in finnish... well other than Pokemon -stuff,
I mean. And all the anime I watch are the original japanese
versions with english subtitles. Oh yeah and Moomin, do you
know Moomin? Those are finnish books for children that
japanese made in to an anime some time ago.

Now I'm just babbling, aren't I
I meant all the biggest animation films are dubbed here so
well that it doesn't hurt them much... And of course It's
also the only option, because the kids need to understand
them too...

German, english and... swedish are the languages that I
have learned at school. Can you guess which one I hated
the most?

smart man. Anime makes more sence subbed, not that anime in general makes sence...

English or Swedish? I say english because although it is my first language I find it rather un-attractive. and Swedish because of mini-trampolines and man-things.

Swedish! It doesn't help that it's the official
second language here, so we HAVE to learn it...
And all this because there is a very small
minority that still speaks swedish in Finland.

that sounds like french in canada...only there is a fair chunck of the population that speaks it...they're just all on the other coast.

Hey, I've heard of that. You almost voted to
split the country in two some time ago,
didn't you?

English for us is kind of "the official language
of fiction". Kind of universal "Klingon" that
you still undestand. It would be actually
weird to hear, like, James Bond to speak my
own language. English makes it a bit more
exotic and distant.

Thats happend a few times over the course of our history...
these days there are a lot of jokes about what would actually happen if we did split.

I had never thought of it from that perspective, but I suppose it must be simmilar to how anime fans view japanese.

Other half would just wax their moustaches and eat
only french bread... and the other half would just
drink in the pub and watch soccer... er, I mean hockey?

Ok, I guess the old stereotypes from Europe don't work
over there anymore... even in joke form.

sanchara In reply to mruottin [2009-05-28 09:26:27 +0000 UTC]

Yea...French canadians and people from France aren't really the same at all... My sister lives part of the year in paris and the french she speaks is a completely different language from the french I speak.

Well, the stereo-type about drinking in the pub and watching sports isn't so far off the mark.
