The way this scene is presented, I get the impression that the humans had it coming.Β The dragon is going after the pyramid, rather than the mobs of peasants, so I'm guessing some cult got up to no good, and the dragon got stirred from his nap to put them in their place.

Don't worry.Β I'm sure parallel evolution has resulted in many a dragon that vaguely resembles Nicol Bolas.
It's a nice piece, very dramatic.Β The dragon's wings look half way between bird and bat (particularly on the nearer one), which I don't think I've seen done quite that way before.Β And the smashed cobra statue is a nice touch, since it was an Egyptian symbol of royalty.
