I just love the lightning in this image, it really reflects the mood of the different stages you show. From the dusk of an old world over to the bright new day of a new one.
Two thinks that might have worked here:
- You could have bring more time based collapse into it. Like parts of the brigde falling apart or one of the buildings in the background going to ruin.
- For a more symbolic dusk to dawn, you could have set different lightsource angles, to reflect different stages of day. The overall constant setting would be enough to recognize the static environment.

This piece is very interesting. I think the last panel's my favorite. It really shows how time can make a place beautiful. I think what might have worked with it is maybe an explorer staring up at it. I do think that maybe the first and second panels could use a little more explanation. Why did the city fall? War? Disease? Alien invasion? The second panel doesn't really add to the piece that much. It just shows neglect in its beginning. The last panel is beautiful! The colors, the texture, and the sky look great! I also like how the towers are always in the background, like a memory of the city in its former glory. That's all I have to say. I hope this is fair.

First of all, this piece is full of very nice color and shading and brings up many questions. As far as to show the passage of time, I like how the second panel shows a few hundred or so years later, but I think that the last panel should have had more in it. Maybe the walkway crumbled or the street sign gone or more bent from the weight of nature. I like the piece regardless. I think that you had a good idea of what you wanted to show the viewer and that this showed it very well. Not five stars but not less than three. I hope you do not take this harshly, because I like how it looks. I hope that if you redo this piece, we can see more of the passage of time.

this is a very strong piece and you stated that you were experimenting so i'm going to skip the cordial points and get straight to the nitty gritty.

Cities aren't quite the concrete jungles that artists make them out to be. very subtle hints of varying colors in the cityscape could have made this piece even stronger. I would have liked to have seen the effects of exposure to prolonged sunlight and dry rotting on the colors of the city as it aged.

I agree with the previous critiques in that more erosion and wear would be expected as well as more variety of color in the foliage.

dust/particles in the air and a thicker haze in the first panel that transitioned to sharper cleaner air would have been a good touch.

i recommend using more human artifacts other than signs and automobile's which don't carry as much of an emotional weight to the viewer.

all in all, a very stunning piece for an attempt.

Well, as it seems your goal here was to show a passage of time, I have one simple critique. It seems that the only indicator of the passage of time is the moss and other plant growth, and while yes, as mentioned in the comments, mother nature does repair herself, I think a few more indicators of the passage of time would make this even more successful as a piece. For example, on the sign on the right hand side of the image, perhaps show it increasingly more crooked, or the ramp or broken piece of street near the center show it having crumbled a little more. Perhaps use a few softer shadows on the defined corners to show some erosion from weather as well. Sometimes it's the small things that make a work even better.

I have seen a lot of city ruins art in the past year, and this one is a very nice change of pace from the others in that it doesn't depict the immediate ravages of some destructive event, and instead appears to be the longer time after the event where recovery is occurring. I find it more peaceful than disturbing, and I really enjoy that with this piece. The colors are very calming, and greens successfully break up the blue without fighting for attention.

I'm still rather new to digital painting myself, so I'm drawing upon what I've been learning to apply to this picture.

The buildings are great. The sense of atmosphere and distance are well done. Only the little building stands out a little too much; the edges of that building's form are a little too smooth, but it's in the distance, and can be easily overlooked. But the bridge itself suffers the same small problem- it needs a little more texture to engage the viewer's sense of nearness to the bridge. Maybe a little more highlights on the underside from bounced light off the foliage. Doesn't need to be very much, just enough to guide the viewer's eye into seeing more tactile variety to that surface.

The only major thing I feel needs to be addressed is the foliage. It's too consistently green, with mostly 3 or 4 different shades of green at that. Throw in some more subtle hints of other colors. When you look out at foliage in nature, there's going to be little bits of blues on the shadows of clumps of brush, golds in foliage with light hitting it, and small bits of flowering plants hiding in the mass of green. More color and texture will really help with all the foliage to really drive how the feeling of solitude in this piece you seem to have strived for.

Overall, this is a very beautiful piece.

For the first one, it seems there was a disaster and the way the sunlight hits the scene gives off a sort of dangerous light, as if everyone has died off and no one has lived there to see what it looks like. The whole concept would leave people guessing of what happened in this scene. The guesses could range from an earthquake, evidence showing from debris and the support to the bridge[?] in the front, which has been damaged, or it could be a bombing. The evidence to that comes from the damage the buildings have in the picture. All-in-all, this first panel is a mystery.
For the second panel, wonderful job on showing the passing of time. Though I would've expected to see less water than there is in the last panel. According to the background it seems to be cloudy, and for me, when I see cloudy weather it gives off that the painting is timeless, which these types of paintings are my favorite.
For the third panel, nature has returned! Over time, nature has finally returned to an urban city. I feel like I'm reciting a line from a book XP. Anyway, it's great how much life you added to the painting. It would have been better though if you made the street sign in the front bend lower to the wieght of gravity and nature. I also would have liked it if the buildings started to wear down over the years of them being rained on and the plants eroding at the buildings. Please don't take any offense to any of this, please. I'm just giving an honest opinion to what I think of the painting, so don't be mad.

Very nice. Beautiful colors, composition, texture, pretty water.

I agree with the critiques on how the structures should have eroded more over time, but I may have to disagree with Chimera-Tears' point about adding items with more emotional weight. If you did that, it would totally change the mood or theme of the piece.

See, as I read it now, it looks like the tragedy of the first panel is the abandoned city, sitting there all lonely and hopeless and unable to fulfill the purpose for which it was built. Over the next two panels, nature creeps back in and the city is once again full of life.

Suppose you threw a teddy bear into the foreground. (A rather heavy-handed example, but bear with me.) In the first panel it's dirty and maybe a little ripped. In the second, it's rotten or overgrown with fungus or something. Totally gone, or at least unrecognizable, in the third. The dropped toy, to my mind, would create a sense that there was some horrible tragedy that killed off all the humans or forced them to leave in a hurry. I guess it's because any child would have taken it if everyone had just left. This might create sympathy for the humans, but it could pit the humans against nature and make nature the bad guy.

Now suppose that you added some kind of eco-guilt-trip artifact, a sign of humanity's cruelness to the environment. I don't know, a gas station or something? Okay, now Momma Nature's the good guy, but people are the enemies. That would seem rather misanthropic to me (as, frankly, have some of the comments here). Alternatively, she's out for revenge. Either way, the work would come off as preachy, which would cheapen it.

No, I think the fact that the city has lost its "emotional weight to the viewer" is one of its key strengths.
