Description

Taking a hike through Muir Woods is a magical experience. The great redwood forests of Northern California are full of mystery, adventures, and the promise of fairytale magic. Its almost impossible to wander the paths and follow the silver forest streams without suspecting the glimmering presence of goblins and imps skittering through the folds of sunlight and shadow. Inspired, I set about to capture a glimpse of the magic in a work of art, and as the piece evolved, I rediscovered the tale of Beauty and the Beast.

Thanks for taking the time to inquire!

My philosophy... if you NEVER plan to share publicly (including the internet), or to profit financially, then what you do on your own time for practice is your own business.

However, if your goal is to practice photo editing, I highly recommend using your own photography and stock art that has been made available for this exact purpose.

Deviant Art has some amazing resources! I highly recommend Fuchsfee-Stock  www.deviantart.com/fuchsfee-st… - she has lots of costumed poses, similar to what is featured in my painting.

In fact... to create my image, I began with some original photos I took at Muir Woods. (They were terrible photos.) I used photo editing software to improve them.
(Perhaps there are some interesting places near you? Consider going for a walk, and see what you can find!)

From there, I proceeded with some "photo-bashing" =  conceptartempire.com/photobash…
and then integrated original painted elements. Those were also based on photo reference.

I hope that helps. Its fun exploring new techniques. And the more you can free yourself from using other people's work, the less you have to worry about!

Best wishes

The beast is HUGE!!!!! And reminds me strangely of King Kong...
Nice job here though!
THe colors andthe dynamism here.
Visually, the colors are convincing enough of a semi-realistic
outdoor type scene.
Well done

Haha! Yes the beast is huge! I admit I was partially influenced by the monsters of "Where the Wild Things Are", by Maurice Sendak, but I pushed the size ratio even further.

As expected. No matter
how good the acting was,
the creatures all look
very bizarre soo...

The critics just jumped at
it. So what? If it was good
or bad, they would have talked
anyway

I understand your inspiration! I've been to Muir Woods, and it remains one of my favorite places. Everything there is just so alive and it feels so ancient and wonderful.

It is a beautiful artpiece, and I think that you captured a bit of Muir Wood's majesty. : )
