Thanks for taking the time to inquire!
My philosophy... if you NEVER plan to share publicly (including the internet), or to profit financially, then what you do on your own time for practice is your own business.
However, if your goal is to practice photo editing, I highly recommend using your own photography and stock art that has been made available for this exact purpose.
Deviant Art has some amazing resources! I highly recommend Fuchsfee-Stock www.deviantart.com/fuchsfee-st… - she has lots of costumed poses, similar to what is featured in my painting.
In fact... to create my image, I began with some original photos I took at Muir Woods. (They were terrible photos.) I used photo editing software to improve them.
(Perhaps there are some interesting places near you? Consider going for a walk, and see what you can find!)
From there, I proceeded with some "photo-bashing" = conceptartempire.com/photobash…
and then integrated original painted elements. Those were also based on photo reference.
I hope that helps. Its fun exploring new techniques. And the more you can free yourself from using other people's work, the less you have to worry about!
Best wishes

Haha! Yes the beast is huge! I admit I was partially influenced by the monsters of "Where the Wild Things Are", by Maurice Sendak, but I pushed the size ratio even further.

I understand your inspiration! I've been to Muir Woods, and it remains one of my favorite places. Everything there is just so alive and it feels so ancient and wonderful.
It is a beautiful artpiece, and I think that you captured a bit of Muir Wood's majesty. : )
