Did they really look like this? I swear I saw that helmet design on one of the baddies in "Alexander Nevsky".

They didn't go out to battle wearing those helmets, I think they were mostly for ceremonial purposes, like parades, presentations, or tournaments, because those things would be way too heavy to wear in combat. But they're eyecatching, so like a lot of ceremonial armor, they pop up in entertainment stuff.

Of medieval armors, I've always felt that the Teutonic Knights got it right.

Well, it's largely fantasy anyway. There are examples of tournament helmets that look like that but they weren't worn in battle.

Guys, I didn't want to start a historical, political or religious debate, I just wanted to share my art. Let's consider it just an artistic act, better or worse, but still an artistic act. Thank you all for your comments and for your interest in my drawings.

Thank you so much, and yes, I suppose you're right, it's more a Teutonic Knight

That is a Teutonic Knight. A commander to be specific, given the gold and black crested helm.

But still a Crusade. Just a different Order.

But the Teutonic knights were founded in the holy land, just as the Templars and Hospitalers. Their presence in the Baltics was also part of an offical crusade against the Pagans.

Sure, but you started it by calling the dog a pug

The original figure to this picture specifically depicts a grand master of the order. I don't know which one, though.

Generally as I view it, the Teutonics were the Crusader Order that rode into battle on the short yellow horse. Their egos were hysterically large and they never seemed to do anything sensible. Like engaging the Russians on a frozen lake, or taking the word of a Poles as a blank cheque to murder whoever they wanted and take all the land they wanted as well.

The Templars meanwhile were more sane, however suffered from becoming too powerful and endangering the economic position of a King, which thus got them wiped out.

The Hospitallers meanwhile largely kept their noses to the ground and played smart. IIRC they're also the only Order to actually have never gone extinct or shut down at any point in history, like the Templars.

The land they took was granted them by the Holy Roman emperor and later confirmed by the Pope. But yeah, you could say that wasn't legitimate to begin with but at that time Pagan land = non claimed land.

"they're also the only Order to actually have never gone extinct or shut down at any point in history"
So was the Teutonic order for the most time, unless you can't te temporal shut down under the Nazis. The order today is alive and kicking.

It was however destroyed by the secularization of Nazi Germany.

That's what I said
Today it exists again, mainly in Austria
