I use a macro lens. But the main thing is learning how to approach your subjects so they don't fly away. As far as dragonflies, you have to walk really slowly. Then, once they get used to you and your camera, they actually enjoy looking at you. They'll fly up in the air to get an insect for dinner and then come right back down to you.

Ahh, I see, I'm still a beginner photographer, so I usually just mess around with different controls and try with different subjects, with the hope to gain more experience. Many thanks for the info

That's exactly how I learned. I'm completely self-taught and don't even know much about Photoshop. Plus, sometimes you have to take many shots of the same thing and only one will be good. With digital, that's easy to do, compared to film cameras!
