Man, this is great, but i can't make the Smudge looks round, i ever get rare things with it, i can't make it round, how you smudge it to get that result? Sorry for my bad inglish.

Very nice tuto.

This smudge was made with a pen tablet, which allows you to make much more delicate movements compared to a mouse.
It can be done with a mouse aswell, but you'll have to smudge with like 1-4px smudge brush to get the same result, since a mouse doesn't allow pen pressure.

@ step 3..

you know saying i smudged until i was happy with the result doesn't help me at all.. no matter how much i try i can't get that result..

either go a bit more into detail or make a video about it..

mmaatt2 In reply to melodyofdeaddeanders [2013-12-04 05:39:19 +0000 UTC]

Smudging can't really be "taught" m8, and he/she used a tablet, with pen pressure on, as far as I know... that's how she got the "result", she got... as for video tutorials on smudging, I have yet to find one... I do know however, that at GFX Resource Forums there are a couple of speed-art smudge tutorials in the tutorial section, once you reach 30 posts and unlock the section... Sorry m8, not much else I can do for you

I always seem to spend the most time on step III. I finally broke down and made two layers, one with the color of choice and a black layer behind it. Seemed to create the value easier for me.

Tahko-The-Virus [2013-06-03 21:27:57 +0000 UTC]

This is a great tut, exactly what I was looking for. A question though: Do you use a tablet to smudge? I feel like most smudges like this are accomplished by setting some stuff to "Pen Pressure" in the smudge settings and that can only be acquired by using a tablet.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneFX In reply to Tahko-The-Virus [2013-06-21 18:08:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks.
I don't have a tablet, therefore I have no access to these settings as well.

Also you keep talking about 'smudging in a color' but for me the smudge tool doesn't have a color picker with it.

I am so confused.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneFX In reply to Mirtax [2013-06-21 18:10:21 +0000 UTC]

Refer to "Step II". ^^

Mirtax [2013-05-19 15:11:57 +0000 UTC]

I really want to follow this tutorial since the outcome is so brilliant, but you lost me at step IV.
Maybe I'm just a moron but could you please try and explain step IV in more detail?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SaneFX In reply to Mirtax [2013-06-21 18:16:37 +0000 UTC]

I'm unsure which part you have troubles with, so I'll try to explain it as detailed as I can.

- create a new layer
- select a color
- brush it where you want to smudge (I recommend a soft brush for this step)
- smudge it to your liking.
- set the layer to "Linear Dodge (Add)" or "Color Dodge"

I'm sorry for the very late answer.
