Description Heres some info and a closer look at the major models that built up my New super mario bros scene in unreal.

granted today with the xbox one coming these models are far too low but for wiiu there about right plus if i remodeled em now they would be vastly different

true there was an Alice before from american McGee but not HD and all that jazz, maybe if they got hold of Mario it wouldn't be a bad thing

why so many triangles? XP sorry, I'm one who would like to learn 3D modeling and 3D game design someday, and I was puzzled as to why stuff like the blocks and piranha plant have so many triangles

these are really low poly models, alot of people still consider the 360 and ps3 "next gen" so the thinking of polycount is genrally the same. truth is characters like Shepard from mass effect can come up to a whopping 30-40 thousand polies when comined with armour. polygons arent really a concern anymore on the current gen consoles its more down to other factors like dynamic lighting and shadows that will really cause problems in real time games.

Wow man, this is some of the sickest Mario 3D art I have seen. I am modeling some Mario props as a personal project I am working on. I think it would be interesting if we could get together and work on some 3D models. It would be beneficial to me to learn from you...these models are truly amazing. I have a lot of ideas for a Mario project...It would be nice to collaborate with someone with the same interest in mind. These models are awesome, the Piranha Plant reminds me of a deku baba from The legend of Zelda series.

Wish there was a way I can participate in these projects, I can definitely use the experience.

what engine will you use? unreal may be too slow for computers like mine... maybe source? i have the source SDK and i can send it to you... actually, it was an idea AND a site but it died and now it's reborn as a story... i'm a member of it so i could ask our admin about it...maybe we can us irrlicht? tanks for the reply...

Were the models deliberately low-poly? I suppose it does make it looks way more game-like those almost holographic texture maps displayed in blue below the colour versions are new to me, are they bump maps or something?

yeah these are delibaratly low poly for the "game feel". Those Pink/blue maps are known as Normal maps, they contain the information of a high poly mesh and allow you to project that detail down on to a low poly mesh.

the high poly that I generated the nromal from for the super mushroom was around 2,900,000 polygons so alot of detail can be transfered.
