Description

This was for a recent photography assignment, in which we had to photograph parts of a whole object.

And usually people think of roses as lovely and smooth with crisp edges. They're a symbol of love; elegance.

But my brother's Rose died because he shoves it into a glass of water and lets it wilt. All that aside, my reasoning for taking pictures of a rose are twofold: I enjoyed its shape; and, I think it's an interesting take on a usually lively flower.

The specific assignment said it had to be in black and white, and I prefer that in this case because it brings out the spirals of the petals.

I'd love to hear feedback, since my photography teacher is mean and hasn't given me any in two weeks.

Ah, thanks! I think the noise can be cleaned up a bit, but I'm glad you like it. I put it on the railing of our wooden deck.

This is great! ;D

I really love this shot And the diffferent angle you decided to take when taking a picture of it-- the symbolism isn't cliched here; but rather unique And the monochromatic color scheme suits it rather well!

Ah, thanks! 8D I originally had the picture in color, but I do greatly prefer the black and white version. Thanks for your input!

I like the reason you have given us for a dried up rose in this picture. It is nice to see the other side of the flower once in a while.

My quote for you: β€œRoses have thorns, and silver fountains mud;

Clouds and eclipses stain both moon and sun,

And loathsome canker lies in sweetest bud.

All men make faults.”

Thank you.

Where is that quote from? It's very...beautiful? Or perhaps simply nice. I like it.

I can't say I'm fond of the noise overly much.. and part of me feels that the quality is a bit low with the way there doesn't appear to be too much contrast here. I feel that a little bit more wouldn't hurt, but that could just be me... I am conscious of the white corner, which is a bit distracting, but I feel that you could solve it by adding a vignette and making the contrast deeper as well.

Other than that, it's not too bad... I feel that... if you were going to chop a bit of the top, you could have chopped more, as the framing/positioning of the camera is a bit out of balance there.

Not bad, anyway. o.O

I took the photo at sunset -- do you think the lack of light may have caused the noise? I'll admit that I don't really know how to fix noise. I think that it would have been a better shot had I chosen take it in the afternoon when there were the darkest shadows and lightest highlights, but maybe I'm mistaken.

Thank you, as always, for letting me hear your thoughts! I appreciate them so much.

Possibly... Yes, most likely, in which case, there are ways around it.

It's probably because your ISO is so big.. can you adjust that at all? O.o

I can change the ISO, but I need to look up what its values mean. I will try to figure it out!

Whooa, this is beautiful!
Even though it's wilted, it still looks delicate and fragile, but I really like the unusual image it gives of the rose. It's nice to see one that isn't all perfect!

it looks really good! believe it or not i just made a photo that is similar to this. but that's still not finished. anyway back to you, i like the angle and the rose too and everything, good focus on the rose, the only thing i'd mention is that the whole picture is bit blurry, even where it supposed to be a bit more sharp. but like i said in general i like it

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SanguineEpitaph In reply to Niky28 [2011-06-11 11:01:04 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for your feedback. I see the blurriness too, but I think that that is my camera, and I can't really fix it. I'm not sure why it became blurry, though.

Glad you like it!

Niky28 In reply to SanguineEpitaph [2011-06-11 22:32:29 +0000 UTC]

yes, you can fix it. if not totally, but there are some ways to make the pic a bit sharp. i used the help of these sites: [link] and [link]

my camera takes blurry photos when it can't focus for too long time. when i click the "capture"button too fast. i hope you understood that, i don't know how to explain it...xd sorry

I like the angle of this shot. ^^
For some reason when I look at this photo it makes me sad.
It reminds me of how everything in life fades eventually.. and how it is just part of life's ongoing roundabout. -if that makes sense.

Nice work.

Aw! My intention wasn't to choose a saddening subject or topic, though I understand how you could feel that way when seeing it. I guess what I would say is that the death of the rose will likely fuel something else's life. c:

Thanks!

reminds me of a cabbage. I like the veins and that it looks like it's made from crepe paper.. kind of crispy or something. It's a totally different view of the humble (and not so humble) rose.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SanguineEpitaph In reply to davidanaandrake [2011-06-11 11:02:08 +0000 UTC]

Haha! It does look like a mini-cabbage. I wouldn't have thought of that.

Yeah, I am pleased with how this casts a different light on roses. I'm sure I could have taken it to another level, but I don't know what that would be so. So I'm happy with this. xD
