As do I! It's a bit cheesy and dated, but it's pretty cool for its time. Plus the song kicks ass.
Also thanks for the fave!Β

Interesting how this song paved the way for innovation and creativity in Music Videos. At that time, many Music Videos were taken live in film but that was until Dire Straights made this as CGI. It was even the first Music Video in MTV Europe as well.
Never knew the Music Video was also made by the studio that made the first ever CGI TV Series, ReBoot.

Everything you just said is true! It's a pretty good music video for it's time, too.
If I remember correctly tho, the studio--Mainframe Entertainment, now Rainmaker, who also did Beast Wars and Scary Godmother--came to hate the music video because that's all people identified them with; they just called them "the guys who did Money for Nothing". Because of this, there's actually an episode of ReBoot somewhere that has the two guys from the music video performing, and being immediately booed off stage.

Pretty much. Even though things change for CGI, its always nice to look back into how much CGI evolved into many forms, even for music videos as well.

True! Even though the graphics are horrendously dated, they're still fair for their time, and they were indeed groundbreaking for their day. It is nice to go back and see how things have changed since then.
I also found the clip with these two guys performing from ReBoot: www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEycLW⦠The guys are apparently called "Sal" and "Harv", seen performing here as "The Dires" X'D

Yeah XDD I've never seen ReBoot myself either, but it is interesting. Though I can't help but feel bad for 'em at the same time. Getting creamed with food and then pummeled by sandbags.

Ah, yes. The song that likes to casually use the derogatory F wordΒ around. Β What a time.

To be fair, even though I understand why there are people offended by the usage of that word in the song, Mark Knopfler said that the usage of the word in the song was something of a satire; the song is sung from the perspective of a hard hat-type schmo working in a store watching MTV in the 80s (when the fashions of the day did involve make-up, jewelry, and people doing up their hair) who is jealous of the people he sees performing whom he believes as making money off of what he doesn't see as profitable, that being this rock music ("money for nothing, chicks for free"), while having, and I quote, "a grudging respect for rock stars".
So on one hand, like, I get why people would be offended. There are people who are, but at the same time, there are people who aren't, and understand the satirical message of the song. I'm not saying I approve of the usage of the word, but it's just something to bear in mind. I think it's dependent at the least partly on the intent, and the intent was not to shock and offend people as far as I can tell.
