The air cooled as the evening approached; bringing a close to the first warm day Tao had seen in months. Patches of snow still remained all over the region, a cold reminder from the events that had taken place only last night.

The familiar shape of Castle Draclugia loomed in the distance, casting a long shadow as the sun began its descent towards the horizon. Several Pokemon were walking along the path towards this castle, some heading for the castle itself, and others departing to head for the nearby Tao. Anther walked slower than normal as he made his way to the castle. It had been a long time since he had gotten a decent sleep, and the last twenty-four hours had seen him fighting for his life not once but twice. The bite mark he had gotten from today’s battle still stung in the cool breeze, and throughout his body he felt a slight chill despite the warmth of the sun. To add to this, he was carrying an additional passenger with him. A Girafarig they had found in the forest, who had been pinned under a tree during the blizzard.

Once Maple had concluded that the mission was finished for the day, she, along with most of the other Pokemon in their company, headed back for Tao. It was decided, however, that he and the Girafarig should go to see the doctors, who operated from the castle for the time being.. His father, an Emolga named Staccato, would have liked to accompany Anther to the castle. The thought of seeing a Pokemon such as Merlot seemed tempting to him. But in the end he decided if he kept Anther’s mom, Ginger, waiting she would have worried herself sick. And thus how Anther ended up walking this path without them.

“Mmph… What… Who…?” A voice from behind mumbled. There was also a fair amount of squirming on Anther’s back now. Anther turned his head to see a rather groggy faced Girafarig.

“Oh! You’re awake!” Anther said.

“Very observant of you…” the passenger commented. “Would you mind telling me where I am? And what exactly is going on? What happened to that little Chingling?”

“Oh, Treble? Well he came and found me and a few other mons to help get that tree off you. You were out cold when we got there, so we just went ahead and lifted you it off. He and the others are going to Tao Village. But we’re heading for the castle up there so you can see some doctors.”

There was a brief silence before the Girafarig spoke again. “Looks like more happened than taking a tree off me. This bite looks ugly.”

“Oh that?” Anther asked. He didn’t want to mention the pack of carnivores that had used him as a trap to lure unsuspecting prey. But he wasn’t going to lie about it either. “It kinda turned out that when we found you, we were became surrounded by a pack of hungry Mightyena. And one of them got me… I’m fine now, though, so it’s no problem.”

“Poison fang on a grass type Pokemon like you? And it was a bite to the neck too. If that’s not a problem to you then what is?”

Anther was pretty surprised the Girafarig was able to read all that. “Were you awake during the battle, then?” Anther asked.

“No. But it’s blatantly obvious what happened. I wasn’t born yesterday you know.”

“Ah, right. My bad,” Anther chuckled. He didn’t really think it was that obvious, though. A good number of Pokemon hadn’t noticed. “So… uh, I’m Anther. What’s your name?” Anther asked after a moment.

“It’s Rem.”

“You feeling alright back there then, Rem? An entire tree fell on you.”

“Hmm…” Rem took some time to think before giving his response. “Feels like I have several bruises… perhaps a broken rib. And I think I’ve been out in the cold long enough to have developed a light case of hypothermia.”

“Good thing we found you when we did then.” Anther said, before bringing his pace to a stop. By this time they had reached the entrance to Castle Draclugia. The sun was completely behind the castle now, making it look very dark and ominous. “Let’s get you treated before you pass out again then.” With that, they crossed the moat and into the giant gates of the castle.
