Previews are out, books are on the shelves and reviews are popping up so I feel there's no need to hold this back.Metalhead's redesign for IDW's TMNT! Had fun with this one! As you may see on his debut book (TMNT#34) the speeder/car mode was something that I suggested and writer Tom Waltz and editor Bobby Curnow embraced.
My goal here was to not only give this version of the character a voice and look of its own, but also to pay a homage to the original design. Mission accomplished I believe.

I want an action figure of this so bad it's killing me. I still can't get over how great it is. You've updated and expanded Metalhead in a way that sincerely honors the original, yet makes him even cooler than before. What you've shown us here is a perfect example of how an update should be done.

I say that cuz you said design for bepop and rocksteady while it was only drawing them with your style + some body definition, I m okay with giving original body structure and calling it design but with their ol' clothes it looks more like a revamp -like those that draw revamped pokemons says- than a real redesignΒ

But I think you're partially right and partially wrong.
I admit that REdesigns is probably the right way to call most of my designs for IDW's TMNT.
As you've pointed out my B&R are really faithful to the original designs and therefore are
basically revamps of those characters. But they are designs never the less. You see, these projects
even when not that different from the source material are the basic establishment for every artist
that works or will work on the IDW TMNT verse. This is how these characters look on IDW.
Even though TMNT historically give a good leeway for their artists to print their own signatures on the books,
things need to be cohesive within all the ongoing and micro series and that's where a "design" is necessary to
set a common ground and unify the vision of the series as a whole.
So, you are right. These are revamps or redesigns but still are the characters designs of IDW's TMNT.
