Description

So, finally I had the opportunity to implement this motive, it was a suggestion which the dear made a while ago.
It's of course Haku, from 'Spirited Away', and the most beautiful dragon of my childhood, which was an absolute pleasure to draw!
His fur/scales were an interesting challenge, because I tried to make it look as if he has both.
The paper flyers were spontaneously added because the background seemed too boring to me,
but actually they fit very good to Haku's frightened expression, they want to attack him with their sharp wings.

And by the way, I had a pretty weird flashback while I drawn this!
Because I had a literary obsession on Haku about 8-10 years ago, so I drawn dozens of Asian dragons, and tried to imitate Miyazaki's style.
Some of them even have short personal descriptions on the backs, on which age, name, physical characteristics, personality,
and other brief information are summarized, like important functions in nature, just as winds, waves, earthquakes, and so on.
Well, you can guess it, 8-10 years are a damn long time, and let me say the pictures aren't good aged at all. xD
I even found one that goes optically in a quite similar direction, and it's looks actually pretty good, compared to the others:

But even if my "skills" back then are already completely outdated now, I can remember very well, how proud I was on these drawing.
And I think that is the greatest happiness an artist can have, because there was nothing in my pictures that I hated or which frustrated me.
I know this sounds uncritical, but I'm convinced that this attitude prevented me to stop, because I was never dissatisfied with my pictures.
And so I could continue carefree, and became automatically better, without ever having an art block, or lost the pleasure to do it.
Today of course, I have a much mor critical view at my works, mistakes are more apparent, and I have a much bigger urge to get better.
This development is, in my opinion, very good, it would simply have brought nothing, to be too critical to my pictures,
since I wouldn't have been able to become radically better anyway, and today my skills are enough, to really rid of the mistakes.
What I'm trying to say is; don't be too frustrated, or be discouraged if your skills aren't so good yet.
Skill comes by itself, the only thing you have to do, is go on, and especially appreciate all what you already can.
And a too critical view at your own pictures is just not useful at the beginning.

(But well, such a shameless ego as I used to have, because of my crappy pictures, is probably not a natural reflex,
which everyone can have, but I hope you understand anyway the essence of what I mean.)
