alas, i finally have a submission piece for the anime-artists contest (theme: fantasy)

there's a lil story behind this girl. me and my friend made a story a long time ago, and we got sum characters goin and sumwut of a storyline but never did anything with it. its about a flower that became human, but the emperor of the country was hunting for a girl with jade colored eyes to gain immortality. she's the one in a million, and gets hunted down. kind boy helps out, blah blah blah. then a tragic ending Y_Y i might draw it out sumday. but this pic, it's a sequel. in the first one, she's more of a damsel in distress, pretty girly girl etc. but in my sequel, she sets out on her own and goes out for her own adventures and finds more companinons. ^^

anyways, enuff with that story, did this by ink and photoshop like always, total of 4 layers. i think it turned out the best outta all my other cg's done in the past ^__^ wish me luck for the contest!!

I picked this as a favorite a couple of days ago, saori, but forgot to SAY anything about it-- when it's great, I become inarticulate; you struck me speachless! The visual syntax of anime and manga are somewhat new to me (Cowboy Bebop led to Lain, led to Ghost In the Shell, led to some others, but I'm still a neophite) but great art in general is something I've consumed since before I could talk, so I knows it when I sees it-- color, composition, draftsmanship, blah blah blah-- forget about it. This is just GREAT, saorimaru!

I like your concept of flower becoming human and how you portray it in this picture. The hair style and the setting vividly convey her former form as a flower (very interesting). I get this feeling that the flower-gir has very cheerful and outgoing (that's *slightly* annoying) personality throughout her expression and the fact you drew a boy underneath her (who seems to be shouting) - it gives light-hearted and humorous tone to the picture. I also have to comment on the costume: it is well-done and creative - nice choice of colour as well; green and yellow emphasize the concept of plants/flower. One thing to suggest is shading: if she is in the forest therefore the setting is dark. Moreover, you specify there is sparkle around her. I suppose there should be a lot of contrast between the skin tone, the shading and the highlight. On the other hand, the trees need a little texture because ther look a bit too smooth, you can use a lot of textures in Photoshop to get the effects.

She has such a sweet face and I really like her flower-petal like hairstyle..so cute!!
The trees are nice, especially the big one in the front...adds to the overall composition of the piece.

This is really pretty! I like your character design a lot, her outfit is too cool. And I especially like her hairstyle, it looks very original. Cute pose too, the guy standing at the bottom is too funny. This is a great CG, hope you do well in the contest!!
