Description Some fun with SAI vector-lineart-stuff w/ GIMP cell-shading.

So this is my rogue (again) in a slightly modified version of the armor she's wearing now. I've wanted to draw someone in this sort of pose for a while, but few of my OCs would probably ever pose like that (Lomadia, possibly, but I don't feel Elena or Ras would)

Though I still adore my hunter (and she would've fit this sort of pose as well) I recently changed her to a goblin vs. an elf, so I have to totally change any sort of elegance she has behind her. :< So my rogue is now my WoW charrie of drawing choice. At least, until I can find out how to draw goblins without making them look like miniature green elves.

omg vector lineart is so so much easier to control than the normal kind. o.o Though it took me a bit to realize that it would probably be better for me to try and draw stuff in a single line (I didn't realize it was done w/ vectors for a bit) rather than my normal [sketch-sketch-erase-erase-sketch] way of doing lineart, which makes it look uneven. >.> There's still a few uneven portions in here, but nothing much.

well this is very nice, first picture in your gallery i actually clicked on cool beans. and first comment ive ever made period. what does sai stand for? and would happen to know how to make illustrations into vectors either in gimp or some other free application?

For your first question - PaintTool SAI is a Japanese painting program that mimics the flow and texture of actual paint, which can create some nice effects - though it's limited in regards to more technical stuff.

And even though I used the term "Vector" in here, they aren't really true vectors, just paths that use a sorta vector-like functionality for control and resizing ease. With GIMP the closest thing you can get is the Path tool (which I don't have a lot of experience with), for real vector illustrations you'd want to get Adobe Illustrator, and the closest freeware program like GIMP I've found with similar functionality is a program called Inkscape. I have heard, however, of a plugin for GIMP that provides vectors using the GIMP structure.

Hehe, sorry for the wall of text and hope you found this helpful!
