I think varying the lengths and directions of each hair might help, so it would look more realistic

i dont think that will improve realism.. i mean just look at photography.. there are models with really weird hairdos.. and in those pics the hair still looks real.. so i dont think the styling has anything to with the realism...

I don't think there is anything wrong with the style, I think the hair looks to perfect. Each hair is perfectly aligned.

well, look at these..: [link] [link] [link]
the hair is perfectly aligned here are well..still the realism is there.. which i dont have.. so i dont think thats the problem either.. but i have no idea what the problem is...

tried that too.. doesnt improve realism either.. i think its a material setting.. but i just dont know...

So... you think this is a bad result? I'm using Poser 8, and I'm not getting anything nearly as good as this, using the same hair (Sapphire Fox hair?) Please teach us, Obi Wan!

haha.. well jesus has nothing to do with it.. im using vray to render my images.. which renders lighting just way better then daz or poser does...

Your work is amazing. The hair is actually the ONLY part that I can tell isn't real. If you just gave her a ponytail, I'd swear this was a pair of photos.

thanks a lot.. i tried ponytails too.. doesnt improve the realism on the hair either.. its just freaking hard to get good results on hair in 3D...

I can imagine. I actually didn't think that level of realism was possible with any part of the body. But clearly, it is.

oh well this is already getting good yeah.. but it can get way better then this.. i have seen render where you just can tell the difference anymore between whats real and whats 3d.. thats what i wanna do too.. but thats still a long way to go...

Which software are you using for the hair ?? try switching to Maya or Xsi i have better results for hair in those two.

SaphireNishi In reply to mikecortes18 [2011-08-14 12:51:10 +0000 UTC]
well im using 3ds max.. im not really sure how you do the hair since you got nothing to show for but im guessing you are using the hair system of maya and xsi.. if i use the hair system of max i get pretty nice results too (check out the next picture in my stream).. but the problem is that the hair modifier isnt compatible with my render engine at the moment.. so im stuck at hair props.. and it doesnt really matter in what program you render hair props.. since you always will get kind of the same end results....

restif [2011-08-13 02:49:18 +0000 UTC]
love both, I always tend to like a more dishevelled look so the one on the left is my preference, but both are nice. Don't have 3DS Max so I don't know how the shaders work for it. I've use various shaders in C4D hair and they are good, but I am a Carrara fanatic these days and I've enjoyed many of the hair results there. But, I too, find it often frustrating getting great texturing for the hair.

thanks babes.. yeah i love the effects on the hair you get in your renders.. i just hope they fix the problem in vray so it can work with the hair modifier in max.. then my problem with the hair will be solved too....

Hm, tough choice, yeah. The first one looks like it has a little more weight, which is what it seems the second one needs. For realism, I think the hair on the left sits better with me.
