In Biology class, we had to complete an assignment called The Taxonomy Project. We, as biologists, had to pretend that we had discovered a new species of animal.
The catch was that this made-up animal had to be related to an already existing animal. Our creature would have a few variations in order to classify it as a new species.

I chose the Greater Kudu (a species of antelope) as my root animal and made a few modifications.

Greater Kudus normally have two spiraled horns angled backwards, but my creature has one horn spiraling out from the center of the forehead.
Greater Kudus also have short tails (like deer), but my creature has a long lion-like tail.
The end result: a Greater Kudu Unicorn. Of course, I called it something else and gave it a scientific name, but it's been so long that I can't remember.

I'm so bummed! I have a colored version of this picture, but I turned it in along with the rest of my Taxonomy Project. When I went to retrieve it, my teacher said she didn't know where the projects had gotten off to (it was at the end of the year and the janitor had put them somewhere safe, somewhere she didn't know of).

So regrettably, the colored version has been lost... I would be eternally thankful if a fellow deviant would like to color it for me, using the natural colors of the Greater Kudu as reference. I miss that drawing so much! *sobs miserably*

Drawn mid March 2006.

K so I uploaded the start of my project... I have the base things down and as you can see I still have ALOT of shading and details to do! But I think it still looks good even in this first stage.

No problem. When I saw the lineart I just HAD to give it a try. I've got it all colored, i'll upload it now. I'm planning to try and paint my first background so at the moment it's just a solid color.. But I think it turned out fantastic.

Eeep! Excellence! It's so tragic that you lost the colored version of this. *adds to mental list of things to color* I have no time, so don't expect it soon, but still...
Hehe... Just looked Google Imaged Greater Kudu... I'm screwed. They are SO COMPLICATED. .... Midwinter break??? Hmm.

I know, dude! I'm like: "Mrs. Pierce, could you possibly, I don't know... DEMAND that the janitors search for my taxonomy poster, because I'm missing that kudu picture something awful."

It was so freaking awesome, I loved the way it turned out! I got the stripes and colors just perfect, and now it's gone...
And it was one of those 3-hour-long-colored-pencil masterpieces, so I'm basically sad right now.

Aren't Kudus rediculous?! Omigod.
That's why I want the colored version of it back. So terrible.

Well, if you wanna color it, go for it. I wish you the best of luck!
Breaks are the best time to do arsty stuff. Lots of time to waste on drawing, that's my kinda vacation.

So sad! You should lead a brigade of outraged artists on the broom closets and other storage facilities of CHS.
I am never going to be able to mimic it, I'm sure... I'll have to try some break, though. They're so pretty, I just have to try.

(More late replies...)

Oh yes. I am on the warpath!

But a friend on dA [ =shyan19 ] colored it digitally for me, so it's all good: [link]

Okay. You try if you wants.
