Description I had a blast working on the prize for the winner of first contest. Congratulations again on winning! Β I had a lot of fun working on his character, Kervak, and probably more fun than I should have putting in the fire. Be sure to check out Alex's comics in his gallery!

Wow, awesome work! The lighting is superb, especially the rim lighting and the yellow/blue contrast. And the way you drew her face and... everything! And the scene is very intense and looks much like a shot from a scene in a movie, or like a poster. Great work!
Did you use images for some of the background/fire?

Saracia In reply to John-AM [2016-11-19 00:47:21 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Β Yes, I did use some photos for the fire and then painted over it some to help it match the picture better.

You're welcome! Well, it turned out great!! How long have you been painting?

I've been digital painting for about... goodness, I guess around 6-7 years. Β Still have a lot to learn, but it's been quite the journey!

Wow! Well your hard work is evident! Your digital pieces are very nice. specially how you can draw people. I still have a long way till I master drawing humans.

Keep at it, John!! Β When I first started drawing I struggled with people. Β It was to the point where i wanted to draw scenes from my stories, but struggled so much with faces that all my characters could only be seen from the back or would have this ridiculous windblown hair that would cover all their features. Β I would look at other artists and think "Wow! I really want to be as talented at drawing as they are." I still do this sometimes, but I have to remind myself I can't compare my artwork - my years of practice - with other people who have been practicing at it a lot longer than me.

That's true, all we can do is be inspired by others, and work if we want to achieve a similar level of talent.
Yeah, I haven't really even drawn scenes from my stories like I want to. Plus being kind of a perfectionist sometimes doesn't help, needing to just get it done. What I want to do, hopefully soon, is practice painting screenshots from movies, try imitating them. Cuz that's really the style or look that I would like to achieve in my illustrations.

That's my goal! When I do, you may feel free to suggest any movie screenshots for me to do too.
