Who wants to go canoeing with me?
The other night we went out to try and capture the Perseid Meteor Shower that always peaks this time of year. This year, unfortunately, the peak is going to be Tuesday, early in the morning (4am-ish) and those of us with day-job's have to work and will be missing the show. Last year my Perseid's peaked on the weekend, but we got rained out; I was so disappointed. This year I've been feeling incredibly under the weather, but I dragged myself out to Blind River and set up shop on the beach to see if I could catch an early show. We did see plenty of shooting stars while we sat out there, but they were far between and difficult to catch on camera. The Milky Way, however, was incredibly gorgeous! The moon set early in the evening and there was little light pollution, so we were able to see the stars so clearly.
This is 4 horizontal shots stitched together to form a panoramic image. The camera here is picking up more light than you can see with the naked eye. I used a shutter speed of approx 35 seconds, anything longer and the stars began to blur, with f2.8 and ISO 1250 (which is super high). No filters. The canoe in the foreground is painted using my headlamp.
