Description The Devourer of Gods.

Quick-ish sketch of one of my favorite bosses of Dark Souls 3 (which I've been obsessively playing the last 3 months XD) I will draw a decent illustration of him in the future, as well as some other bosses from the series.

"Once a righteous cleric, he turned to cannibalism to obtain more power. As a result, his body bloated and softened into a black worm-like sludge. When the First Flame started to fade again, and he was raised from the grave by the bell's toll, he had a vision of a new age, an age of the Deep Sea. So he set out to devour the last member of the royal family, Gwyndolin, the youngest son of the late Lord Gwyn, who had fallen ill as the Fire faded. When we fight Aldrich, he has already devoured Gwyndolin and we see what's left of him, having become part of Aldrich's body, who now has all of Gwyndolin's magic powers at his disposal."

Great picture. The lore around Aldrich and Gwyndolin confuses me. In one place I hear he's completely devoured Gwyndolin and taken on his appearance, the next I hear he hasn't and Gwyndolin is still conscious when we fight him.

Personally I don't see how or why Aldrich would create and entirely new look for Gwyndolin with the new crown and robes. So maybe that was how Gwyndolin looked before Aldrich arrived? Idk. Wicked art though. Well done!

Thanks It's possible Gwyndolin looked different by now, but he's definitely dead. You can see lots of skeletons on Aldrich's body (and in the mess he leaves behind), meaning he's grown to this size by adding bodies to his own (which is why he seems so similar to Nito). Gwyndolin was only recently devoured, so he just hasn't been fully digested yet (poor guy). He either already wore black robes, or more likely, they've been tainted with Aldrich's black sludge. But that's definitely Aldrich in control, or he wouldn't be called "Aldrich, the Devourer of Gods". Gwyndolin is long gone, I'm afraid. The game quite obviously states that Gwyndolin has been devoured, so I'll take its word for it.

Such a shame that Gwyndolin's moonlight set doesn't make a return in DS3 or at least the new dark one he appears to wear in the fight. It probably would have shed some more light on the situation. But the clothes he's wearing now are definitely different to the robes in DS1. I don't think Aldrich was into fashion that much obviously lol so I'm going to assume Gwyndolin simply changed his wardrobe.

Hopefully the DLC will include Gwyndolin in some way. He's my favourite character.

Btw, what program did you use to create the art?

Yeah, I'm super hyped for the DLC's. I really hope they expand on the whole "Deep Sea" Aldrich was so obsessed about, with all the gnawing darkness everyone in Irithyll seems afflicted by. Clearly it's related to the Abyss and it's what Irina is always afraid of, "the little creatures".

I use Photoshop CS6 for everything.

That would definitely be interesting. Aren't the Deep and the Abyss two sides of the same coin?

Possibly. The Deep has to do with the Dark, that's for sure. All those Dark sorceries and miracles come from the deep, like Deep Soul and Gnaw (the little creatures that can gnaw through steel, like the Pontiff Curved Sword) and we all know Dark stuff is linked to the Abyss. Aldrich and Sulyvahn seem very much interested in that. Let's not forget the "Cathedral of the Deep". It must be named that for a reason. We'll see, hopefully

Thanks When I feel brave enough,  I'll try and draw the Pontiff, my other favorite boss. Drawing him will be just as challenging as fighting him XD I must do him justice.

The Pontiff is also a great choice!
Along with the Dancer, Aldrich is my favorite because of their design and weird and unpredictable movement in battle! ^^

Mine too, and Soul of Cinder... just because For some reason I like how the Pontiff is barefoot. Makes him seem more light on his feet, though he's already fast.

I like how he is pretty much the only boss that does not charge you. You have to come to him. I think that just shows how little he thinks of our Ashen One! ^^

Heh, we're just another snack XD Actually, it's because he's a caster. If you've played as one, you know to always keep your distance, which is why he "teleports" around. Casters don't perform so well at short range I still wish we could get that arrow rain from his soul.

In that case I meant the Pontiff who is just waiting at the end of the aren! But yeah, a variation of that arrow hail would be cool. Or at least that gravelord scythe buff for catalysts would be really awesome. But what bugs me the most is that Pontiff Sulyvahns and the black robes and crown of Gwyndolin are not available as armor... :c

I just LOVE those first notes of Sulyvhan's theme as you step on that shiny floor with him waiting in the distance. I short silence before the storm Yeah, my caster now wears the Court Sorcerer robe, but with Lorian's crown. I like that look. It's a bit Pontiff-like, heheh. Though I can't handle his swords with my caster build. Gotta use Dancer's instead. Using his Profaned GS with my other build though. Powerful weapon. I like it a lot.
