thanks -- glad you like it.

Bristol board is a type of acid-free drawing paper. It's usually sold in pads at art stores. It's a good paper for graphite/charcoal work, and is fairly inexpensive.

I especially like the detail and positioning of the knight. He appears human enough that I can envision him as real.

Very nice work, excellent detailing in this piece that brings the image to life. I especially like the feel of movement in the composition and the emotional effect obtained from the knight's face and posture. He looks Norman, is he?

thanks for the kind words! Ya know, I just wasn't sure what I wanted him to be, lol...so now he's just got this very generic medieval look. So, yeah, everything kinda looks Norman, except for his hair, which looks more Saxon to me...I guess if he was Norman his hair would be short or in a bowl-cut.

Thanks for commenting, I appreciate it!!

Hey, we all have times like that, the important part is that you were able to make it work so well. Yes, it was his pose, his clothes and features that gave me the impression he was Norman. Perhaps he is a lesser knight of lower rank and didn't have the funds to follow social styles or customs or he was a rebel when it came to custom and did his own thing. I just know I loved your work as it is, very romantic and thought provoking.

And for the praise, it was my pleasure, you deserve it. All your work is excellent. Keep those pens and brushes flowing. You have a real talent.

that's a great thought about the knight - I like that...thinking of a story and background on a drawing!

I really do appreciate your super-kind words - thank you so much! Sometimes it's so hard to find inspiration, then when I hear words like yours, it only makes me want to work harder! And thanks for the Friends and Fave too!!

Thank you and your welcome. Glad you liked the little story that came to mind when you were talking about him before. I'm a writer also, but I do my own illustrations for my work. Sometimes, my muse and I get the urge to do a picture for no real reason and while doing it, get inspired to write a story about it that forms from the feel of the painting. Sometimes it is the other way around.

Also another reason stories come to mind so quickly and easily for me like this is, I'm also an old AD&D Game Master, who used to GM nightly for many years, before WOW took all my players away. So I'm used to looking at a picture or something out of place or reading a snippet of a news article or story, and then coming up with intriguing stories and plots for my players to unravel. Or help them develop interesting characters to play. Those were the good old days, now I just use my inspiration for my own stories and books.

Any time you might need inspiration like this, give me a yell. It's all good when helping a fellow artist.

that's great! I'm a writer as well, so I alternate between writing and drawing...I find it helps my creativity. I still play D&D, though my husband is the dungeonmaster. I never tried WoW, though I hear it's really addictive. But I think tabletop games like D&D bring out more of one's imagination!

I've looked a few times over the shoulders of some family and friends of mine, that were caught up in the compelling pull of WOW. It has its pluses and minuses. The major thing I see is the animation of your own personally designed version of your PC that is interactive with the world while having the benefits of almost feeling like realistic play. Plus the fact of having someone to play with at anytime of day. The down side is it cost money to start and monthly to play, unless you have cable or DSL UL's of updates and the program can take a very very long time. Also, even although you can talk to the MUNs of the players, there just isn't that close bonding of real life table top play and you never know who you are really playing with on the other side of that keyboard.

I agree with you about table top inspiring the imagination. Programs are just that a set group of thoughts and actions with limitations. The brains involved in a live table top games are constantly brewing up scenarios, pitfalls and scheming to beat or change the plot so much more creatively. And besides, computers don't give the GM "snackerfices" like cool junk foods to appease the GM's fickle gods of the game's bloodthirstiness. hehehe.

I agree - I got hooked on Diablo a few years ago, and i wasn't even playing it online! I imagine I would be the same with Wow, so thank goodness I don't have cable... I would probably never get anything done in my real life, lol. Those games have their uses - I find they're relaxing, but it's so easy to start playing, then suddenly realize it's been hours that you've been on the computer!
