Well I use Photshop for cropping and add effects and filters to the sprites.
And also Illustrator for a better image quality along with some minor effects to make it more visual.

I actually have Adobe Animate whichs close to CS6, cuz it's the version I learned in college, so I might start with it once I finish mapping each story
