Weeell how much do you generally do stuffy commissions for? Just to give me an idea?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaritysAnimation In reply to Falcolf [2008-10-04 05:28:55 +0000 UTC]

that is precisely proportionate to size and complexity of the plush. most of the stuff in this pic i'd probably charge 45-100 darrah if they were commissions. you may deduce from their sizes/patterns where they'd fit in that range. (the badger's life sized, 27") the mini sizes a little less, maybe 25-40 range. hopefully that's all not too sinister. lemme know what you think.

Falcolf In reply to SaritysAnimation [2008-10-04 05:44:11 +0000 UTC]

It sounds pretty fair to me, um, what would you charge for a winged sort of wolf thing (yeah I know that sounds dorky... >< I've just always wanted a plushie of this one character of mine named Kayoss. Uhhh you want to see a ref? That might give you a better idea.

daw i'm not one to judge, my own fursona's a winged serval-dragon if you want dorkage. so note me with the reffy and other info (size/pose) and i should be able to estimate it for you. :3

How did you learn to make these?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaritysAnimation In reply to Black-Pteri [2008-10-01 23:09:44 +0000 UTC]

first by inspecting the construction of my existing stuffies, followed by much trial and error with lots of cheap fabric to waste on the inevitable initial failage.

I've been tearing apart old stuffed animals. Somehow it seems nicer to use their parts than to just throw them away. I always had trouble throwing stuffed animals away... As if they would be sad. ); I'm working on my very first attempt at a stuffed animal. I've spent hours getting two pieces to look the same (Like two sides of a leg)so that they might be able to be sewn together. I haven't made much progress but I'm trying! You deserve a huge freakin' round of applause because they are MUCH more difficult to make than it may seem. These are beautiful!

You're kidding, right? I don't see anything wrong with the others, maybe with the exception of slight hue/texture differences between regions, but that's nitpicking compared to my qualms with most other plushes in existence (both retail and DA... not that I've come across many from the latter category).

By the way, why is it that plushes randomly showed up on your account weeks ago anyway? Seems there was naught but digital paintings before September 22.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaritysAnimation In reply to Rambios [2008-10-02 17:00:01 +0000 UTC]

the color/pile variations look wrong? for the most part they're intentional, since color/textures do differ on regions of real animals. these guys' color designs should correlate with the examples in my sketch dump drawings. though maybe it's just that the transitions between them aren't as subtle in these. (no gradients possible so long as i lack the awesomeness that is a copic airbrush).

but no, i'm not kidding, each and every one of these has a major flaw or two that makes me wanna start over. mostly being that they're too fat or otherwise not so anatomically believable/accurate as i'd wanted. alas, all part of learning from scratch.

plushes are popping up cause i need to find an extra source of income rather quickly at the moment. it seems to have proved pretty reliable so far.

btw i have plenty other digital/traditional artwork done since, but i'd rather reserve posting them until all my trades are done. it just seems unfair to my traders to keep posting stuff that isn't their owed work, but i have to admit these particular trades are giving me much trouble. (thinking about it too much makes the artwork seem impossible to finish sometimes xP)

"mostly being that they're too fat or otherwise not so anatomically believable/accurate as i'd wanted."

Heh. Plush would be a difficult medium to deal with if aiming for anatomical realism/semi-realism. The materials involved aren't "set in stone," like figurines. Still, I stand by my original statement. Compared to stuff I've found in my searches, these have far better structure and expressive detail than most of what I've seen.

But, I admit, being your own critic does provide a nice check-and-balance that allows one to continually improve, though it also goes without saying that we are our own harshest critics. I've found that out when trying to do story writing. I'm never pleased with what I write (save for one case), but my mom loves my writings. And, apparently, she was being completely serious.

SaritysAnimation In reply to Rambios [2008-10-03 00:25:26 +0000 UTC]

ah dunno, with what kosen and talents like her [link] achieve, i think the possibilities for realism have reeeaally advanced. fortunately a hint of the articulated sculpture quality i'm shooting for appears in the face of the orange foxy, its only a matter of applying it to bodies (you'll see when i post, their figures are somewhat bloated and unintelligible). but i'm glad you find them up to par as far as plushie quality is concerned. still, the day i get my hands on clippers and an airbrush...

oh gosh, writing... have you had any instance yet where you've closed a file thinking "genius!" then opened it up the next day like "what the fuck was i on when i was proud of this?" some stuff is better left to the professionals. xD
