I have tried 50mmm and 85mm  before I bought one and I just feel 85mm better. Mostly because of the bokeh (which is for me better than in 50mm) and the fact that it is also really sharp and can produce picture with great vivid colours.  For me it is the no 1 in portrait lens If you are interested in more differences :  www.youtube.com/watch?v=1R94PG…
