This picture depicts the time after the destructive actions are over, this mother and child moved away from the city in a car and somehow got saved while being inside the car,though they are severely injured. But seeing the condition of earth the aliens have offered us help and taking us to their new home,as earth is no more habitable, may be because the very few survivors left are not enough to rebuild their planet or there are possibilities of further destruction.
