Separating? What, is the ocean separating you from the sky? If you were closer to the objective, you could reach up and touch the sky.
If you still have a hi-res version of this shot, try cropping a large strip right from your knees down and see what that cool reflection in the sand does. I was more intrigued by the reflection than the rest of the photo. Oh, and also, maybe it'll help you "reflect" on your place right there where you are now. You could/may be making a more durable mark than just a footstep in the wet sand.

I would have spot metered the sky and give it a better silhouette...or, a longer exposure to give more detail on the person but will smoothen the waves.....
...ah, too many options but tstill a great shot.

I like how there are three different sections to the photo - the sky, the water, and the beach.
The sky is nice - although it's a tad overexposed there really isn't much you can do about that. It is nice to see some subtle pastel colours remaining - they really add to the shot. Because it's overexposed I like how the emphasis hasn't been place on it - ie, the majority of the shot is composed of the other two sections.
The water is great - the detail that the 300D picks up is amazing. I love the sea green / blue tones that came through - on top of that you have those wonderful pastel colours from the sky reflected on the water's surface. The dynamics of the water is evident - there is a lot of motion here.
The beach itself is great - I like how smooth and shiny the sand appears - creating a nice reflection of your legs in the dim light.
This shot has a great feeling of solitude - I love it!

This one really hit home with me because of my separation from my husband. Being thousands of miles away from each other, separated by seas and land....the colors and feeling that this shot has, just made me cry.
