Nimh & Tier Checkpoint: Checkpoint 1.1. "Fond childhood memory"
Tier gained: +8
Checkpoint description: This memory is the fondest to Nimh because she loves to remember her deceased childhood best friend just like he was; when their days were free of worry and the sky was the limit. This particular day still stands out to her. I have included a story on it below.
Sidenotion: I was bored at school and brought my promarkes with me. Done with promarkers + a touch of colored pencil on the sky since my blue promarker would have been way too intense. My first time using promarkers and I had to pick such a complex character with dark base... Oh well. Time taken +4 hours.
Storyline:
Nimh tossed and turned in her sleep until some sort of sense of being stared at got her yanked back to reality. Her eyes fluttered slightly before they flew wide awake. At first her vision was blurry and she had to blink multiple times before everything sharpened up and she could make sense of what she was seeing.
“AHH!” she shrieked and hustled to get on her long, lanky foal feet. Her point of view swiftly changed from staring from the ground up a bay colt, to staring him square in the face. Her heart pounded in her chest from the sudden scare as she watched the mischievous smile on her best friend’s face.
“Ty! You little…” she murmured and lashed at him with her hoof, not truly serious and not really trying to hit him. Nonetheless he dodged easily as his hearty laugh ringed in the air. His dark brown eyes twinkled with the kind of spark only a sure-of-himself young colt could have. Nimh was having hard time staying mad at him and her lips curled upwards no matter how much she willed them not to.
“Come on Nimh, you’re so jumpy”, Ty said with a good-hearted mocking tone.
“Yea, whatever…” Nimh murmured shooting him a dirty look. She glanced around to see her mom grazing just a few meters away and chatting with the other mares peacefully.
“Let’s go for a run!” Ty initiated and once Nimh had okayed it with her dam, they took off laughing, their nimble legs easily covering the distance of the meadow they were at. They wouldn’t wander too far away from the mares. Nimh would watch kick up his hooves and buck himself way up from the ground. She was much clumsier at this state, her body was growing up in a very mismatched puzzle sort of way, her hind legs were much longer than her front and her neck was barely keeping up with the speed her head was growing in. Ty was fast and agile and able to do all sorts of bucks, kicks and jumps.
After they had left out the steam some, they stopped to graze. Both still glanced at the mares from time to time, just to make sure they were still there to secure them. Ty had a sort of pouting, serious look on his face as he nibbled on the green grass.
“What’s wrong, Ty?” Nimh asked as she stopped grazing and looked at Ty intensely.
“Nothing…” he muttered, glancing at Nimh’s intense look. He knew she wasn’t going to ease up on him so he continued with a bit of unease in his voice: “Just the guys teasing me for playing with you… You know, because you are a girl.”
“What!? What does it matter anyway if I’m a boy or a girl? I don’t get what the big whoop is about!” Nimh exclaimed. She practically huffed and puffed, like she usually did when she was upset about something.
“I dunno… They just think it’s weird that’s all… You don’t need to get so worked up about it, Nim”, Ty tried, seeing his friend was just starting to gather up the steam.
“Imma go and tell them what’s what, right now!” she said as she was already furiously trying to spot the colts on the meadow.
Ty got in front of her before she dashed off. He really didn’t want her to make scene about it.
“Nimh, you’re just gonna make it worse… Fine, I guess they just kinda realized that boys and girls are different so, they, uh, don’t know what to do with it”, Ty tried again, this time looking Nimh directly into her eyes.
Nimh shot him a quizzical look and cocked her head slightly. The difference? She didn’t have to form any question before Ty continued:
“Come on, you know, ‘bout the sticks and the holes, where foals come from and so on.” Ty was squirming a little, it was weird talking about this with Nimh. But he knew Solena was one to avoid such subjects and that Nimh would probably otherwise be oblivious her entire life.
A realization dawned on Nimh’s face, she frowned a little and nodded.
“But you know I don’t care, right? You’re my best friend”, Ty said, with a slight nudge on Nimh’s shoulder. Nimh smiled at him as brightly as she could.
“Yea, I know. You’re my best friend too, Ty. And besides, girl or boy, I’ll still kick your ass any time!”
And so they began their daily play-sparring, laughter filling the air as the sun shone down on the peaceful meadow.
