Taka had always felt like the wrong cub was chosen to be King. Had he only been born earlier then he would have been chosen. From his perspective, his brother, Mufasa was naive, thick-headed, and lacked any kind of intuition of what it meant to be King.

After noticing his son's frustration, Ahadi told Taka he had the right to challenge his brother for the throne. Though Ahadi didn't wish his sons to fight, it was a way to know if they were ready to defend themselves and their pride, from unexpected threats.

After the scuffle between the brothers finished, Mufasa was declared the winner. Taka had managed to get a few hits on his brother, due to his smaller stature and quick movements. However he became cocky and began to over estimate Mufasas movements. Then his paw collided with Taka's face, leaving a deep cut across his eye.

Feeling embarrassed and irate at this outcome, Taka stumbles away grumbling under his breath. Mufasa and Sarabi quietly watched him slink away, behind Priderock to lick his wounds.

Zira runs after Taka swiftly, knowing his ideas of becoming king were wavering, as well as her chances of becoming queen, she tries to comfort him.

"Taka, my love, don't be discouraged. There are other ways to become king." She whispered into his ear.

The thought sat in Taka's head, for he knew exactly what she meant. Though he despised his brother, the thought of ending his life never crosses his mind until now. He sat himself in front of a puddle, taking in his new appearance. His left eye was bloodshot and the wound itself, bright red, was still throbbing in pain. It was then when he decided, Mufasa would die by his paws.
