It depends on the media I'm using - this piece was digital. I usually put a layer of hued (usually yellow or blue), distressed, or even rice paper over the linework or to give all the colors a cohesive base to start on, and to give the image some texture. From there, I use any color I wish, but always with the layers on multiply. That way, all the colors are tinted slightly based on the base paper I used, helping to make it cohesive.

My traditional pieces in marker, I color the entire thing in grayscale before I go over those with the color markers, again, just to make it cohesive.

But don't feel like an incapable. It takes years to get comfortable with your own coloring style. I didn't begin to feel comfortable with color until almost 2 years out of college, and I still feel I'm nowhere near where I want to be.

Just keep working and experimenting. ^^

Thanks so much for your advices.
I will practise a lot. The idea of the base color with the variation done by the level in moltiply mode is very simply but very usefull. Realy thanks!
You are so kind, in particular to help a person that you dont know.
