An almost perfect episode but I still scratch my head with that casual encounter of the past.

Well I do hope it won't be a trend, but Starlight certainly needs appearances like that - not in focus, just let her interact

I'm sure it won't. It's nice to have episodes which show the main characters flaws, even I find it hard to watch. And I'm sure we'll see more of Starlight in the coming episodes.

Yeah. Throwing a party for Twilight in the pilot (when she really just wanted to read) is a classic example. And the episode where she tries to cheer up that grumpy old donkey. I think this case was exceptional though. She's usually pretty good when it comes to helping people make friends lol, I think she was particularly insecure because of what was at stake (her sister wanting to live in Ponyville or not).

I love Maud, I found her very relatable, it was nice to see a character that is represented in that way ^^.

For the most of the time it was about her being the comedic device, but indeed this one was probably the first reall time to portray her as full fledged character - but of course I love her humorous moments ^^

I agree with most points. But not Derpy abuse, I can't abide that.
SoC: Rock Solid FriendshipThe number seven is a powerful number. In the Bible it is considered the perfect number and appears several times in the Good Book. There are seven seals, seven trumpets, seven angels, etc. Then there is something in the Bible related to the number seven that applies to all, religious or not, seven days (i.e. God rested on the seventh day). What does this have to do with us? It is the seventh day of the week that we get another episode of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic (and I also get to rest with the closing of this day). This week it looks like we get a Maud episode. Yes siree, everypony's favorite monotone deadpan Mare! I had another rough Saturday so hopefully my tiredness doesn't hinder this week's Stream Of Conscience review. I'm just going to jump into it and start Rock Solid Friendship (note: I decided that I'm going to reduce my screenshots):

"Pinkie's antics were fun as usual, also her characterΒ really felt even more cartoonish in terms of her movement and body language, constantly shiftingΒ forms and overall being very dynamic"
Why is this a good thing? I haven't watched the show in years anymore, and even if I had, this is just a subjective opinion, but in the beginnign the show was quite internally realistic and while we know it's not real , the show internally presented itslf as a 'real' place. As time went on, characters and events became more and more surreal and flanderized and with something like this the show is 'saying' that it's just a cartoon after all.Β
But, obviously, people who still watch the show like the show for what it is and there's nothing wrong with that.

I never took the show for more than it is. Perhaps that's the reason I am still able to enjoy it.

Yeah, I think this maybe my most favourite episode with Maud since her debut, they developed her character nicely, and despite being too nosy Pinkie was fine as well. As for Starlight, I do like the idea of her being nerd about kites, adds another wrinkle to her character, that's exactly kind of episodes she needs at the moment - don't shove her into focus with drama, have her included in smaller portions and show how she interacts around other ponies in more standard situations. It worked for other characters it should work for her as well.

I also think that Starlight Glimmer gives a nice bluntness to the character dynamic. She's very intelligent, but she's also as subtle as a shovel in the face. I really wasn't a fan of Maud thanks to the two mediocre episodes after her debut, but this ep was really good, including the characterisations and oh Celestia the backgrounds have turned gorgeous. First the cavern, then the forest. So good.Β
Still can't stop thinking of Glimmer as a sassy middle-aged AA woman named Letisha trapped inside the body of a pony. <3
