Description I don't draw real people all too often, but felt like trying some today - with cartoonish flavour to it. for this instance I felt like going with wrestling legend, and probably one of the most charismatic folks who used to 'rastle - Scotland's favourite son, 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper.Β

Plus I gotta say, it's interesting how many guys from independend scene gets opportunities to make it big in WWE, however, I can't help that as much as nowadays guys are more athletic than wrestlers of past there is a serious lack of 'bigger than life' personas, that could connect with crowd thanks to charisma, rather than landing high-risk manouvers.

I don't follow wrestling or have any idea who this guy is, but it continues to baffle me that you aren't a professional cartoonist.

Hahaha, well most people who don't watch wrestling won't reckongnize wrestlers outside of Hulk Hogan or The Rock - aka Dwayne Johnson - because movies, so don't worry about it. However if you have seen sience-fiction movie "They Live" - from the 1988 - Roddy Piper is the lead protagonist in this movie

Also thanks, there is still plenty of things I'm not happy about that paticular drawing, but I'm glad you like it Β

I'm not sure if he ever starred in any other movie but "They Live" is considered to be one of Sci Fi classics, yeah it's fun movie with interesting concept too

You need to check out Braun Stroman. Check out this match with The Big Show (who dropped a lot of fat-he even has a six pack of abs!). Sounds boring on paper but both men put on one hell of a match:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=57BToh…

They recently had a cage match that was pretty good too (too recent for a full video but this has the highlights):

www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHgeha…

The last part was to write off Show who is going for hip surgery. Stroman is the very definition of a larger than life character and has really won over many skeptics, especially myself. He debuted as a member of the Wyatt family while impressed with his strength, I figured he'd end up being another Koslov or Heidenrich but this guy has far exceeded all expectations.

Really? that's cool, good big powerhouse wrestlers seem to be few and far in between these days as today's business seem to be dominated by highflayers, which is nice but I guess I always liked strong monseter-like characters more
Yeah I think I have seen him with the Wyatts ( I really rooted for Bray Wyatt for a while, but then dropped since he seem to job for every major feud he is in).
Anyway I liked what I saw from those two matches, very old school Β

As for the Big Show, yeah he seems in really good shape - best I have ever seen him since his WCW days I think. Also I always apprecieated the guy, always there to make other guy look good, rather than himself, and one of the better big wrestlers in history, guy deserves all the apprecieation he gets and more.

Haha, wow I remember this guy from his most famous line about kicking ass and chewing bubble gum...and even being a GI Joe villain at one point. Β  Β I remember watching WWE way back in the day and working out in the gym with the TV tuned to the sweet butt-kickings of the Undertaker, and this being back in the day when superstars like John Cena and Eddie Guerrero were still getting boo'd in the ring. Β A little after Rowdy Roddy's time...but still very good times!

Drawing humans is definitely a very unique challenge, and certainly a rewarding one when you nail the anatomy down. Β It's even harder to do in a cartoonish rendition when you're also taking into consideration what to exaggerate. Β Neato job on this, you captured his aura perfectly

Hahaha yeah, well my adventure with wrestling started in mid 90's with WCW, since that was the only promotion that was aired in TV here in Poland - which is crazy that it was possible to watch wrestling at all back then - we are not the most wrestling-oriented country to say the least. Much later on I was catching up with the famous Attitude Era and further on, but nowadays I don't really watch it unless something paticular happens. Usually I stick to Luch Underground.

Thanks, There are few things that bother me with this drawing like his calf, right arm and text on shirt, perhaps I will try that one again, however I'm glad you like it

There are alot of factors contributing to this, actually

saturdaymorningproj In reply to LARS777 [2017-09-03 18:16:26 +0000 UTC]

agreed. There's never just one factor, but that's just one of many

Yeah, and it's because of them,we can't get bigger then life Superstars

Personally I think lot of problems lies in the writing, for WWE that is, the talent themself seems limited to what writers require from them and there's little space for the wrestlers to be creative, I think that in earlier days wrestlers had some more freedom in shaping characters they perform as. Bit of a wild west, it had it's ups and down but I think it helped to create more authentic feel. Aside from that, well, age of internet and social media killed the mystique behind the business.

You got a point
But you have to admit,it's real hard to write ideas when 90 percent of them have been used

And besides, there are SOOO many limitations now, compared to what you could do back then

Most certainly, well in some regards the business is changing, many independent promotions are getting more spotlight, but as for WWE - the really need to step their game up if they want to keep up with all this.Β

Nah, no worries I'm not a mark, it's impossible, especially in this day and age when wrestlers themselves don't bother to maintain their gimmicks. Remember when "curtain call" was the thing? hahah

If you wanna watch old-skoolier rassling with amazing spots and larger than life personas and storylines, I highly recommend Lucha Underground.Β

I sure do. With it's lore taken out of Mortal Kombat it's the best wrestling product to watch nowadays

Too bad it's in huge financial trouble and season 4 is probably not gonna happen. Especially now that they've lost several of their biggest stars to injury, like Angelico, Son of Havoc and Sexy Star.
