Story:
As the sun shone on day four, Lucifer was grateful for a more cheery start to the day. Escalade was glad for the change of pace and was excited for the opportunity to enter the show jumping arena. Warmup with Silver Conquest earlier that day was both fun and productive. It was always refreshing to see an Azure Strait horse at a similar event. The pair had fun hopping over the set up warm-up obstacles and catching up on the going on’s of the year before their round started. Lucifer led her from the warm up arena and towards the arena where a modest stadium course was set up. Thankfully during their practices at home, he had discovered the mare seemed to float through the courses, taking care to leave plenty of room between the poles and her feet. Unlike Totilas’s drastic overcalculations of jump height, it felt like second nature for the australian warmblood. The free-jump stage of the futurities was just a peek into the mare’s jumping prowess and he was grateful to see her come into her own as she aged. The bell sounded and Lucifer led her into the arena before they cantered off to the first jump. He really lucked out on a mare that was both brave and equipped with the equine version of a truck’s air-ride.
