Balthazar Basara is the adopted son of Empress Theodosia - known as the "Empress of Glass" for her very unique curse which causes her body to become like stain glass except for on nights without a moon.

Balthazar is 25 years old, 5 ft 5 in tall and talented in the magical arts - though his talent is far from honed.

His gauntlets, though usable in hand-to-hand combat, are actually used to protect his hands from the effects of magic as using magic bare-handed can lead to injury - which is why most mages choose to use wands and staffs. He is part of a subset that elects to use his hands rather than a conduit. This leads to more bombastic effects that derive from aggression rather than from the more fluid, calculated casting of a wand or staff user.
