this is an excellent action shot, dont feel discouraged from taking ur pics. idk much about it but i think its brave of the cowboys to go do that and there in more danger than the animals. also if the animals are hurt well they would probibly be eaten anyway. anyhoo great shot

Good God, I didn't know horses could twist like that. And great job getting the shot! Me and my slow reactions, and my camera and it's slow reactions - a combination like that can never get a shot like that. I normally see something, notice how amazing it is, fumble around with my slow camera and then wait for it to finally decide to make a picture that usually only includes a sliver of horse butt and alot of dust.

All I see is a horse going through pain.. the expression breaks my heart. I have seen many terrible things happened to broncs, yet I see them with wonderful care. -shrugs-

...he fell. Got back up.. bucked around some more. Cowboy fell off, horse stopped bucking, ran around some and then back into the paddock.

I hate watching horses go over backwards. It's yucky and dangerous, but this photograph is beautiful.

He didn't go over backwards.. just reared and couldn't really catch his balance and just fell down.. luckily not back.
I don't know if you saw the black horse rearing in my gallery.. everyone thought he was going to go over backwards.. but nope, thank god he didnt!!
But yea, I hate seeing horses go over backwards... I knew someone whos horse did that while she was lunging him.. and the poll of his head hit the ground first before the horn of the saddle did.

I love this photo..especially the horse itself.
Where I live we only get a rodeo every two years so when one comes around I jump at the oppitunity to go..
As far as cruelty goes I say the animals have there revenge, i've been to 5 rodeos and each time the riders get banged up much worst then the horses..one I went to a guy got thrown from a horse and ended up dieing in the hospital a few days later.
As for the animal rights activist that come around preeching about abuse half of them were wearing leather boats....where do they think leather comes from??
Anyway keep up the pictures, you have a real talent for getting the best poses to express the animals themselves.

you have some awesome stock, and it proves you have beautiful talent! I disagree with everyone here commenting on how horrible bronc riding is...saudimack is right and this is a photograph anyways, not a commentary on rodeo events and your feelings on them.

Wow... the timing in this picture couldn't have been better.
Whatever people think about the rodeo being cruel or inhumane, they could have at least commented on the execution of this picture.
The pose is dramatic, the lighting is even, and the horse is in focus.
It's well done art, regardless of the content.

i think people should learn how a flank strap works before they jump down your throat. the horse's balls are much further than that. an unbroken horse will buck at a GIRTH. adding a strap where he is more likely to react (the flank..... same as with a riding crop) simply works with this instinct.

YOU are not riding the horse. you are shooting the photo. i wish people would focus on that. it's one hell of a pose. great timing. that's something you've demonstrated beautifully in these shots.

i don't think people should be allowed to critisize things they haven't experienced firsthand. i work with harness racing horses and i get soooo many people who try to shoot the sport down w/o knowing a damn thing about it. i hate to see it happen to anybody else, especially someone as talented as you.
