Well put. I'm sick of people bashing on rodeo, and, well, many other equestrian events which simply aren't abuse. These animals are bred for the purpose of performing and they enjoy it.

Especially horse racing. I'm sorry, yeah, the job might be tough, but these animals are BRED to race, they love to race, and racing them is not abuse. Accidents happen, and sure, not EVERYONE is the best, nicest horseperson, but that doesn't mean racing should be banned.
Same thing applies to therapy work. I work at a therapeutic riding facility, I know how strenuous it is on a horses mind. It's not an easy job to say the least, but no one screams at therapy centres for abusing our horses. It's a messed up world we live in.

Well with horse racing, I do disagree with them breaking yearlings, and racing as 2 yr olds. I like to wait till my colts are 3 to get them backed. But a business is a business and aint no body gonna tell them different!
Ya I use to volunteer at a therapeutic riding facility around my area, and they would have me take the horses out on trails to kind of let their mind wander and to take the stress off them.
I dont think people say anything about it because they feel its does more good (for the disabled) than harm.
But you do bring up valid points!

Yes, that is also a disagreement of mine. But that happens in many western sports as well. People starting their horses way too soon is a large problem in the horse industry in my opinion, but, like you said, a business is a business.

..when people say they dislike rodeo, theyΒ΄re not only talking about the bucking-part, but everything rodeo includes and which they find as unrespectfull towards those animals.. btw what do you think about ex-rodeopeople, those who for example studied themselves to be vets and after that no longer liked rodeo? why u think that is? Because what theyΒ΄re teached there, is sadly no false information.. it must have been smth like a slap in their faces to make them turn their backs on smth that had been part of their life so long..?

Please inform me what you consider disrespectful.

I was just curious as to what you thought what was disrespectful in rodeo, considering thats what you mentioned in your first comment.
Now, accidents happen, and PETA and SHARK seem to catch a video of that happening and replay it to the cows come home. But all I can say is ACCIDENTS HAPPEN. Just like any discipline. I mean, I dont know if you are into horses and ride but if you do, you should understand this then.
I'm not defending rodeo in the sense that you mentioned, but I'm defending it because there is honestly nothing wrong with it. There are a few bad apples of course, but there is every where.
You wont believe how well taken care of the stock is. Why wouldn't the contractors take care of them? This is their livelihood. They would not be able to make money off shitters.
I dont mean to go off on a tangent, but at the same time like you said, you come from a different lifestyle I suppose, and I'm trying to briefly tell you what goes on in the rodeo world.
But thanks for the comment.

yeah and I dont want to argue with you I bet at least half of what Id mention as being cruel to animals in rodeos, would be those that really aint used in rodeos where there are people who care for their stock/animals, as u say. Those certain things are an unfortunate thing among rodeos, which -if IΒ΄ve understood correctly- create a really tanted image of rodeo (oh and yeah, I have 20yrs of horse/riding experience so yes- me like horses and riding them). So I hope u understand me not mentioning those things here? since in few rodeos they DONΒ΄T use em as they shouldnt.. Id just get bad angry notes of me nagging about ALL that rodeo includes =/
ItΒ΄s pretty much same with that rollkΓΌr among proriders (specially among dressage), if youΒ΄re familiar with it? The "bigguys" are afraid it would damage the whole image of pro dressage-world, so they keep it hush hush with big names like Anky (who are underlined as rolemodels) who seem to take the wrong overdone-turn with hyperflexion Ive seen vids where the horse is desperately trying to get away from rollkΓΌr by bucking and charging ahead + the crazy nervous moving backlegs + the tail not moving that much which tells the back aint working as it should.. in one vid the horse even almost walks with itΒ΄s backlegs MANY meters, but still- Anky wont let itΒ΄s head free and relaxed. Oh and her motto seems to be "I always want my horse to feel and be soft" *rolls her eyes*
yes, I come from different culture, and excatly because of that I think nonrodeo-people should calmly ask questions from you who like rodeo this is what IΒ΄d call two ADULTS having a conversation without anger in the air, wouldnt you say? At least I feel totally ok at the moment when writing this ^ ^

HAHAHA this is great. I though you were serious at first, then I lol'ed!
Seriously, this is a real comment from Youtube...
"BUT A HORSE WOULD NEVER DO SUCH A THING ON ITS OWN FREE WILL! THE COWBOYS TORTURE AND BEAT THEM AND SHOCK THEM INTO PERFORMING! THEY TIE ROPES AROUND THE STALLIONS TESTICLES SO THEY WILL JUMP HIGHER!!"
Sad isn't it?

This is awesome, but why the mature content warning? I'm guessing for more views, but I almost didn't look, I have a filter on.
I get tired of people claiming "animal cruelty" because they have no idea how the world actually works. They don't know how animals act, think or move. All they know is what is spoon fed them from popular tv/internet culture. Way to go for standing up for the truth of rodeo!

Okies, first off, please DO NOT attack me D= I am not bashing you, I too personally think you are awesome when taking photos. I am personally into photography (none on dA at the moment) Your photos are amazing.. and they are making me want to get a new camera so the pics wont turn out the way they do xP
Next, you say the horse does stop bucking once the rider is off, yet your photos clearly show that isnt true. I see four photos of horses bucking.. with NO rider on them. Yes one is in the chute.. which I hate it when that happens so many things could happen D= I also see one (maybe more) were the horse isnt bucking.. In my opinion though after all that bucking you would thnk that the strap came some-what loose so its no longer irritating them. Maybe the horse does infact buck with a rider. whatever.
Another thing I want to point out: The last rodeo I went to, it was the last of the saddled broncs, the chute opened, and what happened? NOTHING the horse was leaning back all the way and wouldnt move for ANYTHING. You say the horse wouldnt move if it was in pain.. there you have it. They tried many times to move him and he wouldnt budge. From where I was sitting he looked spooked too. I bet his eyes were rolled white and everything.
Then there is the wild horse races.. I found out about them in a book. So I did research and I went to tears. I currently own a mustang who was abused in his first home. Its sad to see him afraid, its sad to see that in his first home he was abused.. His first impression of humans after being taken off the range. Now I dont know what happened to him.. but someone (who is good with horses) suspects he was used for bucking or something. I also have a mustang mare.. they both hate their ears being touched, I suspect ear twisting but I could be wrong.
Feel free to say what you wish to me, no affect here. Many have tried to change my opinion.. but it wont happen.
oh and on another note, sorry for any typos.. x3

Gah, I know, this post is a year old, but I just stumbled upon it.... my folks have 2 mares that are purebred Arabians, we have had them since they were young, one as young as 7 days (yes, she stayed with her mother until she was weaned) and they have NEVER been abused, but NEITHER likes to have their ears touched! How would YOU like it if some random person walked up and stuck a finger in YOUR ear to see if you had mites or scratches there? It has nothing to do with abuse and everything to do with it is a sensitive area and they have not been taught to stand still for it.
Rodeo is a business, entertainment business, but it still makes money only when people come to see it. WHY would they tourture their top performers? That , beyond anything, is plain bad for business.

First off, learn what the Helix Rodeo is. That is a rough stock rodeo, which means it's their first time out. Of course they are going to buck with the strap still on! It's their first time bucking! That's why they are so damn rank.
And that rodeo you went to, I am sure those are seasoned horses. They know what their jobs are by then, and I'm sure many of them are stubborn. So if that horse didn't come out, I'm sure he just didn't "feel like it", not because he is in pain. Rodeos would not being going on still if the animals were being abused or not taken care of. For them to perform to this extent, they would HAVE to have great care.
And as I said on another comment of yours... (and this is directed to ANYONE), if you DO NOT LIKE RODEO, then do not come back to my page. Because my page will ALWAYS have rodeo involved in it...
Also, I suggest you to go look at this page.. *Pro-Rodeo

lol try getting CLOSE to them. And actually.. my description is half wrong, usually BRONCS are just mare and geldings.. rarely ever any stallions. Bulls, duh, they aren't castrated...
