Description Birds Nest fungi.......
This is...believe it or not.......a fungi/mushroom grouping. The little 'eggs' that u see are actually the spore packs....when a drop of water or sharp gust of wind hits them they shoot up into the air where they'll burst on impact to spread their spore all over.
These stand less then 1/2 cm tall.....

when i was a kid...i used to flick these with my nail to watch them 'op'.....very neat little tiny things

great photo! i've never seen bird's nest fungi before! i learned about a lot of different fungi in my Biology classes - my teacher was OBSESSED with them! don't blame her - they are awesome!

yeah for her! i've been trying to ID so many varieties lately that i think most mycologists are about sick of me...lol

there are books you can buy of all the species - that's what i do - i have bird books - animal books - i LOVE National Geographic! So informative and interesting!

i've only got 7 on mushrooms right now...lol
i own just about every National Audubon Society field guide book.....and have started again with the Peterson's Field Guide series.....
still never enuf pics/info on some things though. ~sigh~

yeah, there can be so many variations of one species and sometimes the pictures dont match the specimen very well, agreed ~sigh~
