Description A Viceroy butterfly enjoys the demise of a Gar........
So often I find gar up on the banks of creaks/rivers/lakes because people...mainly redneck fishermen...hate them. They fear those teeth thinking they eat all the game fish or that they attack people.
not true.
The Viceroy has the mistaken identity of being a Monarch...it's toxic butterfly look-a-like. The Monarch is %100 toxic so animals avoid it? But the Viceroy isn't.....so it mimics it's fellow b'fly and so is then left alone by most predators

thanx Chris...u know...the only people i've ever heard 'bit' by these? were fishermen who snagged them and tried to get the lines from their mouths..........personally? i'd let the fish keep it!

i agree...unless it is an invasive species..then they need to be dealt with..we have many species like the zebra mussel and certain crab and grass species that are killing our rivers..i know this to be true because i have lived on the Columbia River for 9 years and have seen some of the damage caused...nice to hear from you again

we're next in line for the zebra i'm afraid....we already have the attack killer asian carp that u can see madly flipping out of the water for food.....eep! i know too that our area is near the blue clawed crab (not sure if that's it's name?)areas but so far i've not seen it either.
glad to BE here? when i CAN be ON here! this site hates me a lot now since the change.......sounding like one of those non-conforming sorts i know? but call me old fashioned.
