About a week ago this was disabled.

Someone discovered a code which enabled users to have free floating animations on their main page. Some people made wonderful little page buddies, while others unfortunately abused it and had it block out the whole page.

In general, I really liked the idea despite it not being an 'official' feature, as did many other people. Hundreds of users took the time to create them. I think it would be amazing if dA brought it back with some restrictions to prevent abuse, and even an option to not view them while browsing for those who don't care for them, while still allowing those who used them reasonably to further customize their pages. I'm a big fan of customization, and was very disappointed when this "feature" was removed completely.
