I imagine that these moments are what the darkspawn live for. You spend days working on a proper setup, you plan out the perfect ambush, make sure the light is just right, and then bask in the "Oh crap" expressions of your victims.
...Of course, you could also take this scene out of context and have this be how the darkspawn walk around, and all he wants to know are directions to the library.
