Description Just some random character design sketches, I wanted to try something out in a different style. I used to think a lot about colonial witches, and I wanted to make a character like that. I wasn't quite sure which direction to go with her looks, either really plain or really creepy.

"Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?

Dear Prudence, greet the brand new day
The sun is up, the sky is blue
It's beautiful and so are you
Dear Prudence, won't you come out to play?"
yup.

Bye, I'm absolutely in love with your art and everything!
It's absolutely positively amazing,
and I see you take classes as well,
I aspire to be an animator too, when I grow up of course,
and just wanted to say you inspire me and astound me to no end!!!

Awww, thank you so much! You make me blush /)///u///(\ Being an animator is a worthy goal, and I hope you make it! I'm starting to think that I'm not much cut out for it, at least not for computer animation, which is the only kind they teach at my school, so I'm starting to lean toward modeling and texturing. Now one thing I learned about art classes though, that you should be prepared for, is that some of them are just okay but if you put a lot into them you'll get a lot out of them, some of them are mind-rippingly terrible (and not in a good way, more in a "this teacher is wrong and trying to teach me wrong habits" kind of way, and some of them are actually fantastic with teachers that will change the way you look at art forever and push you to greater depths of skill. Unfortunately that last kind is few and far between. But if you go into all your classes with a good attitude, and willing to push yourself hard, then you can still get a lot out of even a mediocre class. Because if you come out of it knowing even one thing more than you did before or having made one friend that you can stick with after the class, then it will have been worth it. And remember, it's okay to have days when you're crushed by pressure and terrified that you'll never be good enough. That's totally normal, and you'll get through it and be just fine *huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuug*

Those bottom two drawings make me think of Agatha from Paranorman. Always did wonder how a colonial witch might actually look

Haha, well actually it was that movie that made me remember how much I loved colonial witches. I love Aggie in that movie, she didn't have a whole lot of screen time, but you still got a really solid feel for her character.

Aww, you think her hair is pretty? I was afraid it was kinda crappy XDDD I'm not sure if I'll really do anything with her, but sometimes an idea for a story or character latches on in my head and won't let go until I draw it at least once. What one movie are you thinking of?

yes i like her hair, and i know what you mean, stories and ideas need to be drawn, and i have to even if i dont' ever do anything else with it.

and dang i can't recall the name -it was a cartoon, kinda looked like coraline styled but it was about a ghost girl that was going and taking revenge through the town, but the boy helps her remember her past an lays her to rest.

Plain would make her unsuspecting which would make her creepy.

Haha, that is true. I've never really been interested in actually scary witches though. I like the idea that it's just...people with power. And a little kid would have no idea how to handle that. And it's especially fascinating set in colonial times, where the Protestant people are so hostile and violent toward anyone who doesn't follow the norm. But I did want to try creepy looking, because I love the idea of a normal-personality person who's just cursed with looking creepy as fuck that people automatically mistrust. (I don't know what my problem is, I just like people with fantastic power or forms dealing with mundane shit, I have little interest in fantastic creatures dealing with grand problems)
