And I can relate to him so much... And by the way, "pedik" is VERY light word for homos that Russians use. Mostly we use the word "pidaras" for them. It's equal to English "faggot".

Awww, I'm glad (i dont' know which "he" you're referring to, but I'm always happy to hear that I've made something relatable)
And thank you very much for the Russian lesson! It's kind of hard looking up swears in other languages, because even though there's an abundance of resources for them, it's hard to tell if you're using them with the right connotation. I kept hearing it both ways with "pedik", some people saying that it was an extremely harsh swear, others saying that it was mostly something dude-bros said to give either other shit (it's sort of hard, cuz in the English language, every swear word can be used for both (except for "cunt" in america for some reason, though I hear it's quite common in uk and ireland), and I don't know how wide-spread that phenomenon is) But thank you again, I'll remember that Any chance you can give me "pidaras" in Russian letters?

Yeah, swears are the most important part of any language. But they won't teach you it in school. And Russian swearings in particular can be used for pretty much everything, from rage to joy. And you are right, more than 86% of Russian people don't like gays and others with sexual deviations, sometimes taking it to extreme. In post-Soviet republics the situation is the same.Β
Ah, I've nearlly forgotten... On Cyrillic it will be "ΠΏΠΈΠ΄Π°ΡΠ°Ρ" and "ΠΏΠ΅Π΄ΠΈΠΊ".

Well I just have to type in "Russian swears" into google, and immediately there's pages of websites devoted to just Russian swears, haha but it doesn't teach you the proper context or connotation to use.
Yeah, it's like that in most places it seems. Like Russia is famous for it, but I think there's only a handful of countries where the gay-positive people outnumber the gay-hater people. Like Korea's bad about it, Ireland's getting better, but I hear it's mostly conservative, I live in Texas which is almost synonymous with "homo-hating"
Thank you for the Cyrillic translation (and for reminding me what the word for "Russian letters" is)
And I'm glad you relate to him. I wanted to make him wrong, but in a relatable way. Because most of the people I know have that problem and it's very hurtful from someone you care about

I like to think that he caught Vya and Simon kissing in a closet or something, and then was furious cuz he thought Simon had seduced his son. I don't know how Vya got him to accept the truth though.

Bro, that's exactly what most homophobes I've met are. They were raised that way, so they believe that homosexuals are bad news.

Exactly, most of the ones I've met are to. My dad was in his late 40's before he actually talked to some lesbians and it dawned on him that gay people are actually PEOPLE. Humans are bad about that though, most of us go through our lives not quite realizing that everyone else is living and has conscious thoughts and feelings and desires just like we do.
But I so rarely see this portrayed in any kind of media. And honestly, it's the hardest kind of homophobia to fight, because it's so deeply entrenched that the people expressing it don't even realize that's what they're doing. I have some friends and family like this and it's just...it's so hurtful.

I think no one realizes that it exists because no one ever says something. It's just a part of life. And I think that some people subconciously don't want it to go away because it's so familiar.

Exactly, it's very similar to ingrained racism, I'm certainly guilty of that, thinking and feeling racist things before I even consider how unfair it is

Well, the first thought is what society has taught you, the second is what you believe.
