ABOUT THE GROTORI

Grotori (grow-tory)

These are super fuzzy, fluffy weasel/ ferret/ ermine/ stoat creatures.

DIET: Their diet consists of dust, dirt, algae sometimes, and one particular breed eats mold. They do not excrete; they shed the waste though their fur. Their fur turns to the color of what they have been eating after about a month. Grotori have huge tongues, they are easily four times the size of their bodies.

SIZE: When they’re born they’re about the size of a quarter, and at full maturity they fit in the palm of your hand, about 6 inches across. The mold-eating breed is larger, about 8-10 inches, or in two hands.

BEHAVIOR: Grotori have NO sense of direction, they only remember about one hundred feet, a largish room, or 4-5 small rooms. After that they get helplessly lost and cry, and need to be brought back to their familiar surroundings. They have no ears, and instead “hear” through their legs. They sense the air flows in the rooms, but this is why they get lost so much- you can turn on a fan and confuse them. They have a cartilage structure, but no hard bones. This causes them to poof out and float down very harmlessly to the ground when thrown off a building. They are also very squishy, so they cannot be hurt when thrown against walls. A good 40% of their mass is fur. When they get very frightened all of their fur falls off in about one second to a second and a half, and they shed all of their fur when they mate. This is so that they can move around a lot easier. They also shed about once a month. They normally hide during this process; they are hardly seen without fur.

ANATOMY: They have six legs and six hearts, one for each leg. They only need two to survive though, one for each side. Their lifespan is proportional to how well you take care of them; they must be played with. The more attention is given them the longer they live; the more they get lost and frightened the less their lifespan. If one person keeps a grotori around them long enough the grotori can become attuned to them. Eventually the grotori will reflect the person’s elemental alignment colors though their fur, and in some cases they will even represent the colors of the person’s emotions.

Because of their diet, they are usually kept in libraries to clean the books. But sometimes they get lost and find themselves in a garden outside, which is grotori HEAVEN. They find the dirt and become hypnotized- so much food!- in which case they plop themselves down and never leave. They do not exercise and get very fat, and although they will protest very much when you find them lounging and not doing their job, you must keep your grotori out of the garden.
