Description

Edit: since I have been accepted, I will now remove the watermark

-----------------

Haven't posted anything lately because I kinda burnt myself out after the comic... and this is one of the busiest school months too T-T

But this is one of the things I'm using for my portfolio. *panics Sorry that there's a watermark... It's there just until my portfolio is in, just in case... I'm just afraid that someone might just use it inappropriately (normally I don't mind) and whatever trouble I can get in there T-T

But anyways, when there is nothing but darkness one sees, it's easy to say that's all life has to offer. But when there is light, it becomes hope, whether that is false hope, or it's real.Β

Woah, this is just amazing!! I love the facial expression you managed to capture with the person, and the tree looks very realistic. Also i'm not really sure what is underneath the candle but the light sources are perfect.
And the watermark made it almost look like there was something attached underneath the lantern when i first looked at it XD
And the last sentence of your description, that is very true

No i'm not recommending that you remove the watermark or anything i just was pointing out something i noticed. XD
I have the same paranoia problem where i'm afraid someone might use or post my art elswehere without giving me credit which is why i put my URL and logo on all of my pieces (even though it's super easy to remove and unlikely that anyone will use it elsewhere, but just to be safe)
And since this is an important school project, not just for fun, it would be really horrible if someone misused it. Long story short i think you should leave the watermark on. Like you said, better to be safe than sorry.

How is your portfolio coming along?

Kazimerus In reply to Scarlet-Wings-Kaili [2013-11-13 02:13:09 +0000 UTC]

Uugh i have 6 pieces finished currently and i have 2 more to finish by December 6th. I will post one of them when i get a digital copy of it. (yes i only really like one of the 6 ) And when i sprayed the fix on the charcoal i didn't know the spray was old and defective so now like 4 of them the charcoal all rubbed off and smeared and look they have water speckles on them. Luckily they were photographed before that happened. It's easily fixable though if i take the time to do it.
How's yours coming along? Is this the only one you have finished so far?

Ooh hand animation O_o that does sound painful, but exciting! I hope it turned out well

I think i told you before when i mentioned my portfolio. Yeah i didn't know what to do at first and my teacher gave us a list of suggestions people have used in the past and someone did mythology - which i am pretty interested in. However on the last day of research he was talking about how we had to connect to it on a personal level and i can't relate to that besides the fact that i think it's interesting so.... yeah i decided to change my topic instead of making my life a living hell with research and personal connections. I changed it to something i can relate to - personal insecurity (like depression, paranoia, and inferiority) and so on...

Like you i decided to stick with what i know ^-^

Ooohhhhh!!!!! First Place?!! Congratulations!
You should only post it if you want to ^-^ I'm sure it's amazing if it won first place

Don't worry my memory sucks too (especially people's names)
and really? I think i've heard that before. It seems kinda contradictory though, but it think it's true. O_o (Lol it makes me think of crime shows where the people they interview can remember every single detail of what they were doing at 5:30 XD i guess according to that it's most likely not true XD)

Thank you yeah i just have one more piece to finish and I'll be done and free!!!!!!!!! ok not really but still

And back to your animation, you said it was hand animation/flash animation, is it drawn digitally or on paper and just photographed and put together with some sort of software (I'm really interested in animation (as you can tell from my art -_-) so I'm just curious as to how you went about making it) ^-^

Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Scarlet-Wings-Kaili In reply to Kazimerus [2013-11-20 05:13:18 +0000 UTC]

UGHHHHHHH people's names... I always feel so bad when someone is like, "hey Kelly" and I don't remember their name. Yea, I was researching that for a school project... if you are interested it was a podcast from radiolab called "remembering and forgetting" (I think)? I guess that happens because our minds fills in the blanks and we then we remember the "filled blanks" and it becomes hard to remember what's real and what's fake.Β

Nice, one more! What are you going to do to celebrate?

Hand animation is very tiring process... I've done it different ways and it's mostly been people (and their body parts) drawn by hand (because it is quicker for me), scanned to the computer and I move the body parts around in photoshop (cough cough, as if that didn't sound creepy). Then I save each frame as jpg and put them together on Sony Vegas. Well.. I guess that's not completely hand animation because I use photoshop? I don't know lol

But for the won, I didn't use photoshop at all (other to clean up scanner dust) and used the light-table at my school to do each frame... think it was about 250-280? somewhere around there. I don't take pictures because scanners have higher quality and also because I don't have a steady hand. I'll post it and also some other unfinished ones I did.Β

Kazimerus In reply to Scarlet-Wings-Kaili [2013-11-20 20:39:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i hate it even more when the teacher hands you a stack of papers and says "pass these back" and i'm just standing there awkwardly not knowing who they are. And then it gets even worse when i ask someone "who's this" pointing to the name and they're all "that's me" -_- and i just want to shrink away into a dark corner of shame. I can't even remember the names of Book or Movie characters. I can go through a whole movie not knowing the name of the main character. I think it's a curse.Β

Lol to celebrate it think i'm never going to touch charcoal again XD

that depends how are you moving the body parts around because if you're still drawing it then it still counts as hand animation (at least by your description)

250-280 frames? How many frames per second?
i've done a couple of hand animations before the longest one being 678 frames (i don't know how many fps but it was less than a minute long so about 10 fps or so) made using something called "flipnote studio" on the Nintendo DSi and this was a few years ago so i couldn't draw back then and looking at it again it's so embarrassing (my friend even laughted at one of them - that's how bad they were I'm not kidding)

But still 250-280 frames is a lot how long did it take you?

And yay! i can't wait to see it

Scarlet-Wings-Kaili In reply to Kazimerus [2013-11-21 04:43:53 +0000 UTC]

I have to submit it to Deviant film... -___- so it's going to take a while... It took me about 2 school weeks plus the spring break. Mine is about a minute too. There's a different between the number of pictures (I call it frames even though it's technically incorrect. Sorry for the confusion) and frames per second. I drew about 250 pictures, but when I put the pictures together, I had to adjust the speed of the pictures. So frames per second kinda doesn't become how many frames was drawn, but the speed that was flipped through. I've just confused you futher so your welcome.Β

I think in other words, I drew 250 -280 pictures, but because the speed is different than I can actually draw, (I'm not drawing 16 frames per second <--- that's the minimum for it to look animated) after it goes through the software, it ends up at 2453 frames for the whole thing... So that'll be 245.3 frames per second. DX

With the body parts, I draw the body without the arms/legs and draw the arm and legs separately. That's walking made easy!Β

Lol, I stick with conte. Charcoal is far to messy for me. *rubs "war paint" on face with charcoal.Β

Your curse is shared. I too can not remember names. When I'm reading a book, I don't remember the names the author gives them, I make up my own names like: That guy. The ugly guy. The stupid guy.Β

*Fails exam.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kazimerus In reply to Scarlet-Wings-Kaili [2013-11-21 20:00:19 +0000 UTC]

Yeah you did just confuse me further and 245.3 frames per second? Wow! Is that just because of the software where you had to duplicate a lot of the pictures/slides in order for the playback to look nice or something? (how else could you have 2453 pics ). I'm just confused because according to wikipedia the average fps for film is about 28 if i'm reading that right.

Yep ^-^ certain animators tricks like that are nice . (although it gets annoying when i'm watching animated movies or shows and see them making shortcuts like that -_-)
Lol i getΒ  charcoal on my face all the time and once someone didn't tell me about it until about an hour later in a different class someone was all "what's that on your face?" and yeah it was embarrassing.

XD at lest i'm not the only one who does that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Scarlet-Wings-Kaili In reply to Kazimerus [2013-11-22 04:11:50 +0000 UTC]

Yea, the software automatically renders the frames, actually I'm confused now....

O_O Β

Yea, people are especially lazy with backgrounds (this includes me) It's like someone paused the background while the main characters are fighting crime or something lol. Walking is the hardest thing to animate I think. When people are talking you just need to change the mouth!

My glasses don't fit on my nose very well so every-time it drops I get charcoal on my nose. There's a art-room rule that we won't let anyone out the door if they have paint or charcoal on their face.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kazimerus In reply to Scarlet-Wings-Kaili [2013-11-22 20:57:31 +0000 UTC]

I guess we're equally confused then XD

Well, animating talking is extremely difficult when you have to match it with sound (at least with it program i used to make animations a long time ago) -_-
But at least you don't have to change anything drastic like when animating walking.

I wear contacts so i don't have that problem but once my friend (who also wears contacts) rubbed her eyes with oil pastels on her hands and it got on her contact and it looked painful by her reaction.
Lol that's a nice rule Once some kid drew on some other kid's face with copic markers and it wouldn't come off (well it did after he washed his face for like 10 min) but it still had traces of it and he went the rest of the day like that. XD

Oh ouch... I give away all my oil pastels because I don't like how they feel. It's like rubbing butter all over your hands.Β

Hahaha, did you watch Pokemon? There was an episode where jiggly puff drew faces on people with a marker after they fell asleep after her song!Β

I really hate oil pastels. We had to use the cheap crayola ones (Because of budget cuts and such we can't get nice ones) and they're horrible

And no, i don't watch Pokemon. I've only seen a couple episodes and like 2 of the movies. However i do own almost all the video games from GBA on - except for X and Y, which i can't get because i don't own a 3DS. I was pretty obsessed with it when i was younger (which is a bit sad to admit but i still like it now so whatever) and i'm surprised i don't have any fanart in my gallery of it.

Well i have contacts which is just as good as not wearing glasses at all (except when they hurt your eyes and they fall out -_-) But laser eye surgery hmmmmm..... i've heard that you shouldn't get that until your eyes have stopped changing because it's really hard to correct it multiple times. But yeah i don't know, i might one day and by then the procedure might be a lot better. What about you?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Scarlet-Wings-Kaili In reply to Kazimerus [2013-12-04 04:56:02 +0000 UTC]

I had contacts once but it was a nightmare for me. It took me 30 minutes to get one on once and I can`t take them off for some reason. I used to want to get laser eye surgery Β but recently I realized that I grew up with glasses so I guess it's part of who I am right now and it would feel weird if I didn't have them anymore. My eyes are strange because they keep healing themselves... usually people get bigger degrees but for me, every time I go to the eye doctor my eyes get better. I`m not sure why it does that

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kazimerus In reply to Scarlet-Wings-Kaili [2013-12-05 01:19:12 +0000 UTC]

That happens when you get contacts at first. When i first got mine i couldn't get them in my eye, they kept falling out and irritated my eye to the point i would take them out and just walk around blind. However i then got specially made contacts because my corneas are extremely steep and these are doing a lot better. It's just a matter of getting used to them and getting over the feeling that something is constantly touching your eye. I personally like contacts a lot better than glasses. What kind did you have? My friend has the exact same problem and she got daily contacts and they work really well for her. I have monthly and those work just fine. (not the ones where you wear them all the time though)

You're luck to have that happen. I don't know why that happens either but that would be totally crazy if it completely healed itself one day.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Scarlet-Wings-Kaili In reply to Kazimerus [2013-12-05 04:14:46 +0000 UTC]

I doubt it would ever completely heal one day, it'll probably stop at around 50+ to 100+. I'm at around 125+ and 175+ right now and, used to be near 400+, so I'm pretty happy about that. I've heard that green and carrots are good for your eyes but I live in Canada and it's almost white all the time and I hate carrots so I don't know if that's true.Β

I don't remember what I had, all I remember I threw them out because it expired 2 years ago. It was probably the monthly ones because I didn't have to change them all the time. I didn't mind them when it was in my eyes, I just hated getting them out. Everytime I would poke my own eye because I don't have a steady hand and usually after trying for 30+ minutes to get them out, my eyes get dry and it hurts to even try to open them. It was worse when I got one out and the other one was stuck and it made me really dizzy.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kazimerus In reply to Scarlet-Wings-Kaili [2013-12-06 16:52:25 +0000 UTC]

Woah! That's a major improvement! Yes, carrots are supposedly good for eyesight. But i've heard it mostly helps your dark vision. I haven't heard anything about greens helping eyesight. My eyes are weird because my left eye is twice as bad as my right one. I'm not sure what my prescription is i don't know whether it is + or - either because it means different things but I'm near sighted, so i can't see things far away.
Oh yeah having only one contact in makes me super dizzy too. That happened once in a horrible way. Once my left contact fell out in school (you know, the one with the worst eyesite) and then i had to take a math test and do a chemistry lab having a major headache because everything on my right was super clear and i couldn't see anything clearly on my left at all. And that's why i carry around my glasses now in case that ever happens again -_-

Kazimerus In reply to Scarlet-Wings-Kaili [2013-12-10 02:30:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah i can see pretty well close up but far away i can't see anything clearly. I can see basic outlines of stuff (like if i'm not wearing my glasses an i'm looking at a person i can tell that person has brown shoulder length hair and is wearing a green shirt and stuff like that but i can't identify them). Hmmm.... to give an example of how bad my eyesight is when i take off my glasses and cover my left eye i can still see what i'm typing. However, When i cover my right eye i can make out blurry squiggly lines with spaces in between them, i can only read the text if i squint and try really hard and even then i probably can only read it because i know what it says. My computer is about an arms length from my face when i was doing that. So if that gives you an idea because i don't know what my numbers are or anything.
I still had one contact in when that happened so i just covered my other eye and i was fine. (but at least i'm prepared if that ever happens again)
That's the good thing about glasses though. Something like that wont ever happen - or shouldn't.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Scarlet-Wings-Kaili In reply to Kazimerus [2013-12-11 02:41:55 +0000 UTC]

Lol, I once had glasses that one lens would always fall out for some reason. It would be so funny if it wasn't so annoying! Arm's length away my left eye (right eye blocked) can see what I'm typing, but my right eye (left eye blocked) is a bit too blurry to see all the words. So it's opposite to you. From what you've told me, sounds like your right eye is like my left (around 125) and your left eye is like my right around (175-200). I haven't had a eye appointment for a while so I don't know if that's accurate anymore. I've heard that squinting makes eye-sight worse, so I never try to squint. I had a friend that squinted a lot (and refused to get glasses for a while) and when she finally checked she was at 300+ and 200- (she has really weird eyes.... -____-). Whooaaaa, I started with 100+!

That sounds about right for my eyesight.
I was like your friend and i had glasses and refused to wear them to school for a full year so i always had to sit in the front and even had to sit right in front of the projector sometimes. I had a teacher once where if he saw you squinting he would make you sit in the front and ask where your glasses were even if you didn't have any (which i didn't at the time -_-)
And for your friend does that mean she can't see far away in one eye and close up in the other? That must be really weird.
